G'day All
Only new to Stromtroopers, so I thought I'd introduce myself. Rod is the name I live in Australia, NSW on the South Coast in the Shoalhaven about 15k's west of Nowra.
I've now had my 2007 DL 650 a approx 3 months, It's got just over 3000 k's on the clock. I mainly use the bike to get to work, which for me is a 56 k round trip. With the price of fuel these days I thought a bike will be alot cheaper doing 56 K's than running my petrol v6 pajero to and from work. As yet I haven't got to have a social ride. I'm really looking forward to that!

I haven't owned a bike for approx 20 years. My previous bike was a Ducati GTS 900 (864), prior to that a Kawasaki Z1R (Z1000). I feel that my larger bikes days are over. I'm supprised at the grunt the DL650 has.

I found this forum while I was reading an article on the buffeting we get from the windshield. I know that the windshield can be raised, I raised it to the top setting, but found it too high when cornering and up and down hills. I compromised and put it to the middle setting which still isn't all that great in regards to the buffeting. I haven't found the thread on the subject as yet. Last night I found an American brand called MadStad Adjustable Windshield Mount. Does it work? Does any Australian store stock this item?
Regards
Rod

Hi Rod,
Welcome to the world of V-Strom. I have also only recently been converted after owning nine other bikes, three of them BMW's. Teriffic value for money.
Anyway, like most others I have grappled with that awful windscreen buffeting problem but have found the solution.
I recently bought a MadStad bracket from Tampa USA via the net. It arrived in no time at all and I am delighted with it. No more concussion inducing buffeting but smooth clean airflow. As I am very tall I have also invested in a taller Givi screen and the combination is magic. What is more, the bracket allows infinite adjustment of your screen, up and down, back and forth.
Get in touch with the nice people at MadStad Engineering at <www.madstad.com> or <support@madstad.com>
It works! The cost is about US$80 plus $20 postage.
Regards from Hubert in Brisbane.

G'day Rod,

.....and welcome back to riding. I'm in the same boat as you - back in the saddle after 20 years or so. I also rode a Z1R (1132 Yoshi), which still lives in the shed.

This Forum is a great source of info and opinions. Enjoy the ride!:)

Cheers,

RodC

Welcome Rod, you will be amazed as you read the threads on this forum how many strommers are riders returning to two wheels after an extended break. For me it has been 13 years. BTW very nice area you live in. Visited Nowra several times when I was a Navy Boy, lots of nice roads around that area.

Welcome.
The screen issue is a very personal thing which is entirely dependent on your size, riding position and tolerance.
In my case I'm lucky I don't get buffeting from the screen but I know many who do. Before you go with the Madstad try the el cheapo washer under the bottom mount fix (PM me if you want instructions).
Another option is a shorty screen from Eagle Screens (http://www.eaglescreens.com.au/) in WA. I know at least one person who thinks the shorty screen has worked better than his Madstad did.

Welcome Rod and congratulations to the world of the WeeStrom, you have made a wise choice.

Looks like we are close by with me being in Wollongong and riding in your area a lot so we will likely cross paths at some stage, just look for the little fat oompa loompa on the 2005 Red Weestrom and you have found me. Also keep an eye open for another mate of mine who will shortly purchase a Weestrom as he has been converted by the adventures of myself and others (poor buggers ride KTM's though).

Enjoy the bike as I am sure you will and may see you out an about on a ride some day.
