Ok, 3 day weekend coming up. I want to vacate any thought of work from the last few brain cells in my noggin. The best way for this is to jump on the 'Strom and head in some direction until I have to turn around.
SO
Anyone want to ride any of the 3 days this weekend?
I'm looking for a good ride (day ride even) to anywhere.
Any takers?

Hi Guys. I'll be following this post to see what develops. I am considering riding somewhere in Vt. or NH on Friday. Could stay over in a motel strategically located so I could join someone on Saturday early to ride. Keep me advised. Weather looks pretty nice, so far!

Mathew is arriving friday nite and we will be balancing the carbs on the Yamahauler .. and getting the chain aligned and cleaned & lubed.....:)
I also fond him a rectangular headlamp assembly to put on the bike ( that will allow him to use a brighter lamp than the old sealed beam:rolleyes: that came with the *1981* Xs 400 ... we should be ready to go no later than 9:00am..
If anyhone wants to camp here friday nite they are welcome to pitch a tent on the lawn and of course facilitys are available at standard state camp ground rates ( I.E. : shower = 2 ales *this must be prepayed*;);
Bath room privledges are : 1 ale per trip another note : Ale must be COLD !! no re-filling the bottle:confused: ..you know where this is aimed;)

My favorite answer when I find myself asking this question:
"Go West, young man, go West. Preferably along twisty roads."

I did a hair over 400 miles, 13 hours. Had a great time. Said it before, say it agian- VT has the best roads in NE!
I tried getting lost in the Monadnock area on the way home. Unfortunately, I kept winding up on some bland road within a few miles. But still fun.

Sounds like my Sargent (your old one) might not be safe. I'll make sure to lock the garage at night.
From Dan's post it sounds like it was nice. At least you had great weather for a ride. Anne and I are going out for a ride today. We're just getting on and going. This will be her first ride of the season, not counting her riding my DRZ. I think we're getting another great day!

So how far on Rte. 9 did you go after you peeled off on 12? I had dnner with a friend in Keene and then hit the trail home to Braintree. Got in at 10:15PM with the total miles for the day at 525.

Great pics Tom! The new bike looks good. I like the red reflective stickers. It looks like you guys had a nice ride up to Appalachian Gap and Warren. Those are some great roads. Sorry I missed it. The weather was beautiful. The last two times I went to App Gap it was pouring rain.http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i291/jackpiner57/wall.gif
So, JohnS brought his wife? What's a nice looking woman like that doing with him?http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i291/jackpiner57/beesnest.gif It looks like Dan bought some of those Draggin Jeans with the Kevlar in them. Good choice Dan, cuz I know you wouldn't ride with just regular jeans on. It's good to see that Matt made it too, hows the bike running? I've got to get an old bike to ride around on. That looks like fun.
Who is the old fart with the silver hair and silvery blue 650?http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i291/jackpiner57/peepwall.gifI've seen his face before.

I thought Matt did well with the old Yammy, even if he did keep running out of throttle.
I need to rig up something to take pictures while riding. When you go riding with this group, all you do is ride. :???: There are lots of good reasons to go back and take pictures later.
Short trip report from my perspective: left Braintree at 5:15AM and met Dan in Londonderry about an hour later, slabbed it to Jack's arriving at about 9:20. J&J arrived a few minutes later, those of us who needed it gassed up and I got a chance to tip the new ride over in the gravel at the gas station. I gotta stop hitting that front brake when the bars are turned, even if there are SUVs coming at me. Scratches on hand guard, mirror, and crashbars. Blinker is cracked. No big deal to get that over with at the 931 mile mark. It's gonna happen again too.
Rode through verdant and fragrant (pleasant and otherwise) countryside for an hour or so, and heading up through the pass, I scraped my left foot for the first time. I thought the peg was supposed to scrape first -- must be my damn 5E feet. It spooked me and I did a tiny wobble, but stayed on line.
Had lunch in Warren, a great place to stop and eat.
Rode some more and we split up about 2:30 in East Middlebury, Dan and I headed down Rte. 7 to Rte. 103 and picked up I-91 for a short stretch, and then Rte. 12 into Keene. Dan headed east on Rte. 9 from there and I met a friend for supper and then rode another 100 miles to Braintree, landing at 10:15PM. Exact mileage total for the day was 526.1 miles.

He did great on our White Horse Press BBQ ride too. And we threw some really slimey road at him, but he always kept the dirty side down (I'm not sure there is a "shiny" side on the Yamaha). ;)

You guys have all the fun when I'm not around.
I guess you're not babying that new ride too much! Have you lowered it yet? I'm surprised that you touched down without lowering. So far my peg feelers are free of scrapes. And that Copake trip saw some fairly severe lean angles. I used to have very wide "chicken strips" on my tires until that trip. Now it's just a sliver.
I can't believe the nice weather for this weekend. Somebody up there must not have been paying attention to the calendar.

I haven't lowered this one and I'm still not sure I will. After I get full luggage on it, I'll decide because that will probably add at least 50 pounds.
It definitely needs new front springs (which I have) and if I go the lowering route, I'll do it with a new shock rather than via dogbones.
Today, we're working on the old Honda 750 that I just sold back to my son-in-law. It needed a new bottom plate because of cracked threads where the drain bolt goes -- ebay had the part.

I'm glad that you all came & that you all enjoyed the day. :D
I was able to ride again Sun afternoon ,I accompanied Matt back to Newberry,( the bike was running bad on sat pm. So we re-set the timing & believe it or not the Vibration of that engine caused the elect.Ign. to advance about 6-8* , caused him some problems on the long hills) For those don't know him Matt has been riding now for about 1 month. He's resurected his boss's 82 XS400 frame and My '77 XS400 engine to put himself on the road. He really enjoy's riding with our group and has found a lot of confidence in the process. SO, I thank you all for supporting my nephew "YammaStrom".....;)

It does't take much arm twisting to get a few New England people together to ride. So how was the Autoroad?
Hello group,
I met a 1200GS riding buddy yesterday in Winsted, CT & we headed into MA. After hitting the third Memorial Day parade we decided to take 91 up to Putney. After lunch @ Curtis' we took 9 over to 100 to 8A south. Other than a little rain early & some tar snakes on route 8 is was a good ride. 370 miles round trip.
Hope to get up for a couple rides this season. I work Saturdays, so I'd probably shoot up Sat night for a Sunday ride. I'm in the market for some camping gear & a pair of Givi bags, all ready got the Givi racks(came with the bike).
PS. Eastside, I'm in Stratford, CT. Where do you ride from?
