I enquired about a skid plate for my 1000 at a couple of local shops without any success.
Any recommendations for Australian available skid plates and crash bars.

I saw the recent Two Wheels article on SW Motech accessories on the Strom. What do users think of them?

Have also looked through the articles on Stromtrooper. Just want to know what you liked out of what is available here.

Third ever post, please crucify me gently if this is the wrong place to ask:)

The Internet is generally the best place.
Places like Adventure Motostuff or Twisted Throttle offer extremely good service . With the favourable exchange rate at the moment imports are even cheaper. Generally goods ordered from the US will arrive at your door in 7 - 10 days from order, compare that with the 4 - 6 weeks it sometimes takes for the so called Australian distributor to get popular Givi items to local dealerships.

You want anything for a DL650/1000 in Australia made By SW-Motech or Bags-Connection?
Its here,in stock and available now without this 7-10day BS, and at better value. Seriously

A lovely way to introduce yourself to forum members I must say.
If this is the way you solicit business I'm sorry to say I will take mine elsewhere.

No need to answer Michael, give those of us who have bought from you a chance to answer. ;)

Peter, Michael has just set-up an online store,
www.motorradgarage.com.au (http://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/www.motorradgarage.com.au)
I have done a lot of online shopping and his shop has the gear at reasonable prices, in stock and without the huge overseas shipping costs.

Just go in to Twisted Throttle and place an order, go to the checkout and see what they charge, in most cases it is almost as much as the order itself!:(

I have bought the Kaoko throttle lock and sw-motech quicklock tank bag from Michael and have been very happy.

As for your crash bars, Suzuki do the GIVI crash bars which I have found to be good. Have already saved my bike once (see product reviews).

For skid/bash plate check out Dan V's gear, I have the weestrom (650), I dont know if Dan does one for the 1K, here is his website if you want to ask. I have found his shipping has been very good.

Keep on asking questions, thats what we came here for too!

G'day Pete,
I also have the 650, like Pilbaralad, but have got SW-Motech crash bars, centre stand, and skid plate. I bought through a dealer in Singapore, last year. ( prior to hearing of "Mottorad", whom I have successfully purchased gear from, since. )
I have found the gear great. I have also tested it a bit, with a couple of offs, and rock hits.

I have ordered gear from Aus, and O.S. I have not had a bad "trade" online yet. Which is more than I can say for the local dealers I have walked into, and had problems....

Like K1W1 says, looking online, you will find quite a bit of gear, and trolling the forum's can give you plenty of info.

Cheers
Chris

Thanks for the replies, I will take a look at the site mentioned.
I have fitted a Radgard and had the dealer fit a Suzuki centre stand when I took delivery. The Radgard looks functional enough but I thought the $195 was a bit steep for what it is.
I would like to get a bit more protection over the oil cooler before exploring dirt roads though.

To look at the accessory angle from a good point of view we do have a lot of choice as our bike is getting to be quite a popular worldwide model. It makes it fun for those of us who like to trawl the web looking for just the right fit for us.

I think the whole crashbars/skid plate & highway pegs issue does need to be looked at in the entirety if you plan on all three as some setups are much easier to arrange than others.

Hi Guys,

I have been trying to locate Givi or RJays top boxes online for the DL650 with no success.

Does anyone know a good way to get them or even a comparison between the two. I am assumming that the freight cost for getting them in from the USA will be steep.

Thanks,

Dougal.

Go into products and have a look,$195 to450 odd. Good luck. Plus you will need to buy a mounting plate.

I have just ordered a new DL 650 from Lloyd Chapman MC in Perth. The prices for Suzuki accessories (fitted) were:

Centre Stand - $400
Bash Plate - $350
Crash Bars - $225

I did price checks elsewhere and other dealers quoted significantly less for SW Motech gear instead of Suzuki gear. My dealer found the items (in stock in Perth) and matched the prices (fitted):

Centre Stand - $220
Bash Plate - $260
Crash Bars - $190

Overall, that is a saving of $305 for three items fitted by the same dealer. I am pretty happy with that.

Dougal.
