While we were Winging it, Saturday, between Mt. St Helen's and Hwy14, I must have seen 6-8 Stroms. One inparticular was eastbound on 14 around Washugal. Gray, nicely farkled, but no headlights. Another on southbound I-5 just before the Beaverton exit, looked like a fairly new bike. If you're reading, I gave you a thumbs up from the red Goldwing.
Btw, My Strom was at breakfast, too. Will post a couple of pics later.

Had my eye out all weekend for Stroms as I towed the family Springdale Trailer to Nehalem Bay for a nice Saturday through Tuesday camp out. Lots of bikes on the road including a nice sporty BMW with a rider in t-shirt and khaki shorts hanging it out between Nahalum and Garibaldi...unreal.
Finally spotted a Strom on I405 at about 2-2:30, bright green jacket.

I saw a DL1000, blue with a "Longriders" logo in white on the gas tank, and Washington plates, headed south on I-205 this morning about 10:30 AM. Big Givi hard luggage, looked like he was headed on a bit of a trip. I was impressed by the bike but I wasn't impressed by how close he was following cars in fairly heavy traffic. That didn't seem very bright to me.

I got a wave from what I think was a fellow trooper this afternoon at about 1:30. I say 'think' because they were south bound and I was northbound in the FREAKING TERWILLIGER CURVES! :confused: I like to wave at my fellow two wheelers but am not going to look too hard let alone take a hand off the bars in that section of I5....ever!
Talk about sensory overload. Some cars doing 60, some doing 40 and a mix of semi's, buses and contractors trucks etc...

Saw a blue 650 ab out two weeks ago in Lake Oswego (I drove by on my gray one).

Getting back on my '07 650 outside "Q's Cafe" in Brookings when I hear a "beep beep". Glance up as I'm putting on my helmet to see a guy ride by on a blue V-Strom 650. I finish gearing up (ATGATT!) and boogie down the road. Caught up with him a few stop lights down the road, but the light changed before we had a chance to say anything. We rode down 101 into California and had to stop at some construction just as we're starting to get into the Redwoods.

We chat a bit, his name's Ken and he lives in the area. Asked if I wanted to take a side road most people don't know about. I said, "Sure!" After we _zoomed_ through a curvy stretch of 101 (think "Return of the Jedi" for a visual of that experience!) we pulled off to the right and headed up a mixed gravel/paved road. After a few miles we came to a wide spot on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific. Took a photo:

Ken had to head home so I thanked him for the side trip, hung out for a few more minutes of awe, then motored on as well.

Ken, I didn't get any contact info from you and don't even know if you surf this board or not. But just in case you do, thanks again. On my six-day tour down into northern California and back, that was my favorite experience (with highway 36 from Eureka to Redding a very close second place)

Saw several this weekend.
Saturday, about 11:00am, I was caging it and had just come over Bald Peak and was on the flats coming into Newburg, when I saw a full dress blue Strom heading north, then I looked in by rearview and saw those distinctive headlights in back of the cruiser that was following me.

Sunday the Wing group did a 475mi loop out 84 to Biggs, then south and lunch in Fossil. Then south to 26, west to 22, through Sisters to I5, then north to home. Left at 7:00am, back at 9;30pm. That's a long-ASS day even on a Wing. Saw 5 Stroms in various spots along the way.

My wife gets frustrated with me because even when I'm riding the Wing, I'm thinking Strom. When we get into some twisties and I start getting into the groove, I start to lean forward, like on the Strom. She knows to poke me in the ribs to bring me back to the, "Oh yea, that's right, I'm driving the minivan" and I back off.

Rolling towards Timberline Lodge this morning I spot a familiar looking set of headlights in my mirror...Sure enough, a fellow Strommer on my '6'!
He passes me and I now follow him up to Government Camp. It's Stevewz and he joins me for the ride up to the lodge for lunch.
Epic day up at lodge level with unlimited visibility and a nice road clear of gravel (this time :D )
Remarkable number of skiers for July.
Here is a tip when dining at the lodge...
If you dont want mayo on your burger then be sure to not tell them that when ordering.
Also, the code word for 'sourdough' when ordering your deli turkey sandwich apparently is... 'whole wheat please'.

Fatstrat ... yeah, it was great catching up with you on the road up the mountain. The view up at Timberline was incredible. The mountain was crawling with teen skiers, reminding me of sugar ants the day after a spilled Coke. Several walking past us in the parking lot gearing up for the trip home commented, "Cool bike, dude!" Their remarks were even more meaningful considering the BMW '650 parked next to us -- going completely ignored.

Seeing all those kids walking through the lodge with their ski helmets and goggles on ("Dude, you're inside now, it's okay to take your goggles off, okay?") made us feel like we fit in with _our_ gear and helmets. I bet some probably looked at us and thought, "Now THOSE are some hard-core downhillers!"

Fatstrat, sorry you had to head back home. The ride on to Wamic was incredible.

July 4th, Blue Wee, top box at Monroe Jack in the Box, that past us in Sultan. Another parked Wee/V? with a KLR in Sultan.

Awsome ride. Seattle, Hwy 203 to Monroe, Hwy 2 to Leavenworth for lunch, blasted over Hwy 97 (GF loved it), blinking gas pump symbol the last 14 miles to Cle Elum (WHEW), I-90 home to set off fireworks.

How far can one go with the blinking gas pump symbol before your in trouble? It took 4.99 gallons at fill up. I guess I had 8/10th of a gallon remaining being that they are 5.8 gallon tank. I think thats cutting it close though. 44 mpg two up mostly easy riding except for the 25 miles blast up 97.

I failed to notice if it was a Wee of Vee, cause, well, I was overwhelmed with amazement with the lack of gear...Helmet only, shorts and hawian shirt to compliment...ouch.

Yeah, I'm sure I look like a sweaty dork on hot days in full black leather/mesh gear and a safety vest, but, well, ok, 'nuf said.

Think I saw that guy, too. Infact, most of the bikes I've seen this week were doing the "beach bum" thing. Guess they figure "If I go down and scratch my bike, I don't want to get up."

Had to laugh, an import truck pull up beside me at a light with two 40'something guys inside that were shirtless(I choose to use the term "topless" for something nicer looking). They asked how I could wear a jacket when it's this hot. I told them it was mesh and the wind went right through, but it still had the armor to protect me. They smiled and nodded. Sometimes self-preservation is tough.

Yup that was me... Problem with being on this forum and that BRIGHT, BRIGHT, BRIGHT jacket is I am no longer anonymous. Now people can say things like, Damm... I may have seen you the other day. I live on "the island" at the corner of Baseline and 185th. Do you go by there at all? I also have a grey 650 but with Pelican side cases. Seems like I see tons of Stroms in the area but I'm never on mine when I see them.

6:38am Thursday 8/9, heading east on RT 26 btwn Cornelius Pass Rd. and Shute Rd. To dark to catch the color, but looked like yo has a Windstrom Manta windshield, and who can mistake the distinctive head lights. Had full hard luggage too.

Rider - It's a rarety anyone makes a connection on this thread. That was me and my GF on a loop from Seattle, Whidby Island, 20 to Winthop. Stayed in Carlton Sat. night. Hwy 97 over Blewett, I-90 home.

**Note** Anyone in that area go to the restaurant in Carlton, it's very very good. 18 miles from Winthrop, 22 miles from Pateros.

Today (Sunday) we went onto the NF roads thru Liberty to Lions Rock attempted to go to Hainey Meadow but got tired. Most of the roads are well maintained but at higher elevation they get rough and some pretty good elevation change. Just rocks (not really loose) very passable. GF had a great time being it was her first Adv. Tour Offroad. Views are spectacular.

I think we did great for 2 up on that type of road. GF had a blast the whole weekend, our first long trip, 595 miles. Our tail bones hurt.

You offroad Adv. guys should check this area out. MILES of roads to ride in the Wenatchee NF off Hwy 97. Majority of the gravel roads are very good condition. Again, higher elevations well above Blewett Pass elevation it's rougher but quite passable. If I can two-up ..... dudes.

We will be going back "Adventure Touring".

As the 'Father' of this thread I would like to ask a question...
Is it worth while? I admit that there rarely is a connection made, but I always find it interesting to see were folks are traveling to and from and the volume of V-stroms seen is also interesting.

The latest sighting for me was Sunday about 1pm 2 Stroms and a Ducati westbound in to Tillamook. Buddy said he saw the Stroms and Duc at the Cheese factory a little later. I was hauling the family and Springdale Trailer east back to home base after a successful weekend of crabbing and camping at Cape Lookout.

I have an '03 and the windscreen mounting is different. I discovered why again this weekend and have some beefing up to do on the lower mount. For '04-'07 the Madstad seems a great farkle to add.

I saw three Stroms Thursday evening.

You: A familiar set of headlights, heading out of Kingston around 6:15(?). We waved at each other, I didn't catch what color your bike was.

You: Yellow Strom with a full set of matching yellow hard bags and (black) crashbars. Rolling off the Edmonds/Kingston ferry on the Kingston side, right around 7:15.

I think there was a second Strommer also, I was so dazzled by the yellow bike that all I really saw was a second set of Strom-like headlights.

Me: Grey Wee, red jacket and tankbag, black tailbag, grey helmet. Waiting to get on the boat. (Headed into Kingston, if you're the first guy I saw.)

This is not intended to be a flame or criticism at all, just an observation that really opened my eyes.

I was on my way home Sunday afternoon and turned onto Buxton from Old Columbia River HWY. in Downtown Troutdale. I was with my family in my Truck. I had been on the lookout for bikes all day as there were many taking advantage of the perfect fall weather.
As I looked up the steep hill I saw a car just coming down from the top with headlights on. But...I though I noticed a very very slight wiggle of the right headlight. This caught my attention. Then another slight wiggle. At that moment I realized what I was looking at. It was a motorcycle in front of a car. the bike was totally invisible and would have gone totally unnoticed by most drivers, even those looking out for bikes. I pointed it out to my wife and daughter and even though they were looking for it, they couldnt see it. I soon guessed that the wiggle was the rider probably swerving a little to miss the many manhole covers on the hill.
As we got closer I saw that it was a gray strom full luggage, dark jacket and helmet.
I could not believe how impossible it was to see you coming down that hill. I am going for a hi-vis jacket asap and maybe some more lighting.
Dont ever let anyone tell you that a little wiggle or slight swerve to get your headlight moving is not worth the trouble. Had I not been paying attention and had been planning on turning left I very easily could have turned in front of you.

Clearly an excellent option (one I intend to install as well).

But in this circumstance he would have looked like a car with one modulating headlight. Attention getting yes, but wouldnt have seperated himself as a different vehicle traveling in front of a car. His outline blacked out by the car/van behind. High vis vest might have helped but it would mostly have been obscured by the front of the bike in this scenario. It was the slight side to side motion (not a giant slalom back and forth weave) that screamed 'motorcycle hiding here' to me. Just my observation and my humble opinion from this single instance that I happened to witness. If anything it highlights to me even more the importance of standing out in traffic, be it with color, motion, lighting or all of the above.

There is definitely some truth in that "I didn't see him" we often get. That's why I ride with a yellow jacket (even if it does say "Honda") and a silver helmet. Not so sold as of yet on the headlight modulator. I would definitely like to get some low mounted driving lights for the roadside critters. I almost had venison for dinner yesterday in my truck... a whole lot of it too!
Aren't you thankful beyond words that you didn't pull out in front of the guy? Can you imagine the guilt, being a cyclist. I don't think I could ride again.

No probs. headed out 18 to the coast, then turned off along the Salmon River and hit about 30 miles of logging roads to south of Lincoln City. Got pretty muddy and hit some snow. I was sure wishing I had my XRL, but I don't have the heated grips installed yet so I decided to leave it home. Strom was pretty squirrelly in the light snow and muck. Tipped it over once (no damage).

Of course, on the way home (in Washougal), I hit the pressure wash place :)

Sunburst Orange is the official name they give it, but being a resident of Corvallis for 10 years, yeah, OSU Orange was one factor in it's favor behind selecting it. Visibility, Uniqueness and Nostalgia (Mr's Mirage had two orange cars growing up) were the others.

I was headed up Hog Creek road from Graves Creek. I get about a third of the way up the mountain and I'm in a short straight away, pretty steep with a corner ahead when I see something! It's a red Vstrom and he's mostly over on my side of the road. Luckily neither of us was going very fast. We pass eachother and I pull over and stop on a nice wide spot. I look in my mirror and see he's slowing but then he just keeps going... I'm thinking, ahh he'll turn around, so I turn off my bike and listen to him getting further away, his aftermarket exhaust, popping and spitting all the while. WTF? On the way back home (7:30) I spy another silver strom west bound on Stark east of Troutdale road. This guy was ATGATT :D and had a sport bike/rider in tow.

I have only had my strom for a few months, and I was pretty excited to see a bike I recognized from here out on the road! I was on my way back from the coast...pretty surprised to run into rain with what the weather reports had been saying. My girlfriend was behind me in a car and saw you. Needless to say, she now thinks my next farkle should be shark teeth :-D .

On another note...Monday, Gray 650, floor 6 I believe @ the 3rd and alder smart park...Tried to find a spot nearby but ended up on 8. I usually park on the blue floors. It was laden with cases (e360's I think), so I am guessing it belongs to someone here...

On my way back from Burns yesterday spotted a blue Strom in Prineville at the intersection of hwys 26 and 126 around 6pm. Reminded me I had been in a cage all day.

Wee and Vees were out today. I saw 5 between Everett, Woodinville and I-90 bridge today.

Blue Wee w/ high viz jacket heading northbound I-5 thru Everett around 7:45 am. If you had your high beams on intensionally, you don't need to dude. V-strom has bright enough lights on low beam. High beams are very bright even during the day. I could easily pick you out in traffic 3/4 mile ahead of you. From close range to bright.

I understand being seen, but high beams are not the answer and Will irritate the cagers.

That was probably me. I was wearing a silver helmet and red jacket. I think I saw you, was looking the other way and just spotted you as we passed.

Saw you turning right from S. bound Shute onto Evergreen west bound, you turned into the newly constructed building on the same corner.

About 12 noon ish, I saw the double take look as you saw me on my Yellow '03 Vee in the left turn lane of N. bound Shute, waiting for the light so I could turn onto Evergreen west bound as well.

Would have waved, but I was on the clutch waiting for the light, sorry.

Looked into the parking area to see if you had stopped someplace to wait for me, couldn't see you, so I continued on my ride. Hope you didn't have to work on such a beautiful riding day. I was just starting my 110m loop, after a quick stop at Napa auto parts to whip up batter connection for my tire pump. Seems I've got a loose ground or blown fuse on my SAE flat 2 heated gear connector that I use to power my pump. Found what I needed and got the pump working and tires into spec. Had a great ride.

Blue DL1000 '07 rider in black jacket & helmet - oh wait that was me. Seen in driver's side mirror that was 3 feet in front of me as that pick-up truck decided I was expendable and merged into my lane on I-405 yesterday! I will say though that when he bothered to look (after I thumb-stumbled a bit to get the horn sounding) he just about had a heart attack (could have taken us both out...). That's one 20-something who just got a 'life lesson' and is now a cycle-aware driver. Now, I have to go change my shorts.:mad:

On Sunday I passed four bikes with a DL1000 in the lead on forest service road 46, heading back toward Ripplebrook from Detroit (after getting turned back by snow). I was following a guy on a blue CBR. A gal with blonde hair in a pony tail was on a black cruiser maybe second in line. I was in the silver DL650 with a gray Aerostich and gray helmet, Givi V46 top box but no side cases.

Next was closer to Damascus also westbound. Dont remember the color.
