After putting 25000 on my KZ900 I traded up to the SR500! I only got $900 on the trade-in, and they ticked me off by not giving me a free helmet, but they offered me a 25% discount on any accessories. Well I bought a new helmet- and I plopped a magazine add for a hop up kit from White Brothers in front of them. They payed the 25% for the kit; cam, piston, rings, 36mm mikuni carb, valve springs, and oil lines, plus magura grips and cables! (and a supertrap muffler I ditched because I couldn't stand the sound of it)
After 1000 miles on the bike I took it into the livingroom, tore it down, spent a week making the ports mirror-smooth, matched the gaskets, and had one sweet-single!
I never missed the power of the 900, had a bike I could adjust the valves on in about 10 minutes when it was cold, could lift the front tire over railroad tracks in second gear, and was comfortable cruising at 70mph for extended periods of time.
If it was available today I wouldn't think twice about having it for an only bike! Put an oil cooler on it and I'd take it coast to coast!
