Some interest was shown regarding this event. It is on Sat. May 19th from 10am-3pm. Maybe we could include it in a New Hampshire/Mount Washington ride? Here is the link:

We free camping available at my Dad's house in the Eastern corner of Wolfeboro. It's about an hours drive South of North Conway. I'll confirm with him this weekend and scout out a good spot for us.

Hi Jack
Normally you would add $15 for site plus wood. So it's a little closer anyway.
And, a QUEEN size bed, ahhhhhhh!!!
I didn't realize how long it takes to get to North Conway. from CT. Going Hwy, it takes about 4 1/2 hrs.-- using more back roads would be about 7 1/2 hrs. That might be a bit out my enjoyable range for a weekend trip.
I just might plan my next trip to Niagara Falls. Ever since I saw the whirlpool jet boat ride on TV, I just have to go on it:

Well I'm not going to make this one. It turns out that we are celebrating my daughters 14th birthday at Six Flags on the 19th. I tried to make some changes to the schedule but realized I was stirring up the waters upstream.
rbertalotto, I might be doing the Strom Rally. I'll have to be back on July 3rd though.

I like the idea of Mt Washington if the weather is good. I also have some other ideas but I'm trying to figure out how they would all fit together.
I think the best approach would be to plan something for Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday we'll end up at my Dad's and on Sunday we should try to end up on the Western part of NH so that the VT guys (just Jack?) are closer to home. Given the BBQ in the middle of the day it might make sense to do Washington on Sunday?
We should be able to do Hurricane Mtn Rd on Saturday as it's next to WHP.
I know a lot of back roads in the area, and there are a couple of nice ways to get back to my Dad's place.
PS: Tucker is in for the rides. He plans on riding home to sleep on Saturday, but promises to make it up to us with donuts in the morning when he returns.

I think you'll like the routes I came up with. There is a great mix of roads and I avoided all the busy stuff that gets choked up with weekend traffic.
We would meet at White Horse Press. From there we ride Huricane Mtn Rd both directions. Then we take all back roads from there back to our campsite (75mi 2:15). Setup camp, then take the long scenic way to dinner (20mi 0:43). Another long way home to camp (15mi :32). If we have some time there are some interesting dirt roads to explore.
Then on Sunday a lot of great roads leading to the Mount Washington auto road. This weekend the autoroad is open to treeline, weather permitting we could get to the top next weekend. Bring warm gear just in case we can. On the way to the autoroad we take a very scenic route around Chocorua, then the Eastern part of the Kanc to Bear Notch Rd. Eventually we'll circle Washington by taking a dirt road over Jefferson Notch. Then around an up the autoroad. (125mi 4:00).

Yes I'm skeptical of the Washington Auto Road being a good bet this coming weekend. There is a chance it will be ready but I'm not banking on it. This past weekend they planned on being open to treeline. The URL below has all the information. Bring warm gear.

As for Tom joining us on Sunday that sounds great. Let me know if you have your GPS setup and working and I'll send you a route to my Dad's, and the route I have planned.
I think you would like our camping location. Ever wanted to know how your Strom handles deep sand. This camping location offers a great way to see, if you choose to give it a try.

It's not looking good for the MtWAutoRoad.
It's too early to know what will happen this weekend. But showers seem likely at some point. We do have a barn that we could hang out in after diner. It isn't known for being clean, but in trying to show the house my Dad's been working on it. It does have lights and doesn't leak, and I'm sure it smells better with a few beers. :???: On the plus side any cleaning we might do would be greatly appreciated!
I checked the WHP site and they don't seem to have an alternate date set.

If that is where you want to meet up I can suggest slightly better location that serves coffee. Just before you get to that cross road if you take a right on Rt 109, before you get to Rt171 there is a small store/gas station on your right. We'll be coming right by it, and it's a little nicer place to wait than the intersection. I'll have to check a log or two because it is possible that the store is actually just onto Rt171, but it's really close to the Rt109 & Rt171 intersection.

Jack, does the Lat Lon I posted (#21) for breakfast help? I'm not sure of the address, but I took that waypoint on a prior ride.
At this time the weather is looking a little better for our riding, but still not great. The current forecast shows the worst weather occurring during the WHP BBQ. Hopefully they are prepared for dumb people on Stroms to show up in the rain! We might have WAY TOO MUCH food and special deals!
My guess is that we will not be going up the Washington Auto Road, but we can decide that late in the trip. I realized this morning that the Jefferson Notch could have snow or be snowing, so I'm gong to plan an alternate route too. My guess is that if we can't do that we will not be doing the AutoRoad either so the alternate route might not go that way, assuming that if it's to bad on Jefferson then Washington will be worse. Currently the AutoRoad is still only open to treeline and is unlikely to go further. If it's in the clouds I do not really see any benefit from driving half way up. Perhaps going to the top just to say you have would be worth it, but half way and no view isn't my idea of fun. But we can decide that late in the trip.
One more note, I realized that I plan on taking the Jefferson Notch road the reverse of what I did the first time I road it. It may be better from the North, but that doesn't fit our schedule as well, but I'll take one more look tonight. I'll try to post the complete route at the following URL tonight: https://rcc.sr.unh.edu/~rea/stromtrooper/2007/May/ for people to download if they want it for this weekend.

If you're on Rt153 about 2000ft south of the Rt.110 intersection you're in the correct location.
Also like Randy said, the store(coffee) is located on Rt 109 before you get to the Rt171 cut off.
I have both waypoints (breakfast & coffee) on my GoogleMap version at the following URL:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://www.sr.unh.edu/~rea/stromtrooper/2007/May/WhiteHorsePressBBQ/WHPBBQ_070519.gdb.kml
You can also downlode the MapSource files from https://rcc.sr.unh.edu/~rea/stromtrooper/2007/May/WhiteHorsePressBBQ/
(Tucker wants the _Dover version, everybody else probably wants the one without our trip to/from Dover.)
The flyer I have says the White Horse Press BBQ is from 10am - 3pm. Assuming Tucker and I get a decent start I expect to be there closer to 11am.
I suspect that those coming from the West will come via the Kanc and those from the South will come that way or up Rt16. Although we do ride on the Eastern part of the Kanc you are very unlikely to travel on any of the other roads we intend to ride on.

I wish I had thought to say. Oh wait I did in post #21! The address wouldn't really help you since the mailbox is at the end of the road about a mile away.
The campsite is in a section of my Dad's field. If dry we have wood to burn, if wet we have a barn loft to tip back a few beers before bed. The GPS coords should be near the house, the camp will be on the far side of the creek. The bridge over the creek is near the barn. Note that you can ONLY get to this location from the East via Rt.16, do not believe any map that tells you it's a through road. If you want proof you can take my DRZ through once!
If you look at the GoogleMap you'll see that north of the waypoint is a large oval sand riding ring. We would be camping just SW of that, and the bridge is in the SE corner of the field.
I'll PM you my cell number. I know it works at the coffee stop and at the campsite. I do not know about the breakfast location. I'll have the cell on and can answer on the bike.

Thanks Tom and Rob, but I ain't riding in the rain....yet! I ordered a pair of Olympia pants last week, only to find out they were out of stock (this after the dealer deducted from my CC). I spent 2 long days up north this week doing soil samples in the rain; I've definitely had enough of being cold and wet for a bit. And with the pathetic cold/rain gear I have (Tom and Jack can both attest to that), I think I'm better off waiting patiently for better conditions. BUT, don't think for a moment I won't buzz up there Sunday to join you guys, in my threadbare jeans, if need be, once the riding bug hits like a bat to the head.

Dare me!
With my SV I would for sure, I'm not that confident on the Vee yet but I did get onto a short section of unmaintained road last week, even had to cross some very loose recent washout and a few water crossings.
I believe I have been all the way thru that road 30± years ago, a survey I worked on the back side of Cotton Mtn.
You likely know many of my secret roads, that's one thing I really like about my job surveying, it gets me out on the back roads, some of them pretty rough, my SV was nice & light, felt like a trials bike to me, I may have to get a skidpan for the Vee, I can't pick my way thru obstacles quite as well.

Had another great ride with a great bunch. I met VtSTROM-K5 and his nephew Matt at P&H Truckstop in Wells River, VT for breakfast. Matt was riding a 1978? Yamaha 400 twin that he put together from a few parts bikes. A real nice guy too. We had a little drizzle on the way to Conway. There was a bicycle race happening on the Kancamagus. I think Jack called it the Tour De Franconia:D It was slow going because of all the riders and touring cars. We got to Whitehorse Press around 12:00 and checked out the bikes and gear. I think we all bought something. The food was great, especially the steak tips, and the weather was dry. There were quite a few Strom there too.
We left there at 3:00 and RedAnt took us on a nice tour of the area. There were some real nice roads, with Hurricane Mountain Road being my favorite. There was some rain, but not too bad.
I split from the group at the end of the day and headed home in the rain. I got home at around 9:30pm

Nice report, Tom. Yesterday, I got the cah all loaded up with hazardous materials for the annual town poison collection day, got it all over there and there's a sign at the gate saying it's cancelled. By now, it's amost noon. Grumble grumble, I had my choice of TWO rides to go on yesterday...and I do have rain gear.
So I stayed home and watched the two inches of torrential drizzle that fell on the bike cover. Meanwhile three boxes of parts for the new ride showed up via priority mail, adding to the two that came on Friday.
I've been out in the driveway this afternoon between showers. So far the centerstand is installed and the difficult part of the bash plate is done (putting in new side stand bolts) and a thunderstorm is now rolling over. I'd love to have a garage.

On the way back, I checked out the directions to RedAnt's campsite, in the event I wanted to harrass the campers latter on;) that road is kinda slimey when wet, I see a set of Karoo's for my Vee
If you think it was slimey during daylight hours, you should have tried it at 9pm in the rain on a full stomach. I'm glad we ended up eating first, so that we only had to navigate that one time each way! It rained so much we didn't get any pictures. Considering I was the lead bike, I guess my view of slimey was the best, since the following bikes got to see a nice red prism affect on all those tiny raindrops each time I hit my brakes. And remember that was the GOOD direction for that road. Last time I went from the other side on my DRZ I had to get off and push along side the bike in a quicksand like hole after eventually finding a bottom about 18 inches deep. But I think Garmin and Google would gladly route you down that path!
I did get a few movie shots of us on Hurricane Mtn Road. I haven't look yet to see if any are worth having. I'm not holding out high hopes for them. I think the lesson learned is if you want to take pictures you really want the bikes coming in from the East side, as that direction seemed better. My thought was to let people ride it once to see the entire thing then take some photos on the ride back. It would have worked if we took two complete passes, buy it rides differently each direction. Coming from the East side it's frighteningly easy to get the front wheel off the ground in many places.
Since we didn't have anybody to meet on Sunday, no hope of the Mt Washington Auto Road being open, and Saturday morning roads tests had show the dirt roads to be quite a challenge when wet. We ended up changing the ride to head over to Meredith HD/Buell after taking Rt113 over the top of Squam Lake. That way we left the VT guys close to home and if they would have let us do a test drive we could have a nice Buell bag for free. But the sales folk don't think customers should ride motorcycles in the rain. Where's the adventure in that, after all I wanted to test ride the Uly Adventure bike!
Tucker and I then headed home down Rt106 to Rt107. Once I download my GPS I'll post a trip report, complete with almost NO pictures.

I want to jump in here & back Rob up on the H-D Sales farce, OH I mean sales force ... Those people thought we were INSANE to be riding yesterday.... Of all the people we saw @ the dealership only 2 other people were riding motorcycles . none of the sales staff were willing to take anyone out for a test ride... & none of the ones I talked to rode their bike in to work:???:
The WHP open house was awsome >>>>AWSOME!!!
the roads were great , the weather wasn't to warm, and almost no bugs!!
Also , some of the most spectacular country I've never seen...
And a Damn near killer lunch!!
