We recently got our first big snow in years here in Indiana. I was very excited because I bought a pair of snowmobiles last fall. My wife wasn't very happy when I brought them home, and justifiably so. After riding on it, her mind has changed. I can't get enough of it. For those of you that have been on the sleds, you know what I mean. For those that haven't but have been on a personal watercraft, it's very similar.

The snow is forecasted to be melted away by tuesday, so I will need something else to occupy my free time when the V-Strom is stashed away.

What are you doing?

Ha! I don't ski or snowmobile. So I took up pipe smoking. A lot cheaper than those cigars I was smoking before, and more relaxing. I'm enjoying it. But, we are coming out of the deep freeze and we may get some rain mid-week. If it rains enough to wash the damn salt from the roads, I might get a couple more late December, even early January, rides in. That would be sweet.

We sit around looking at websites of different cities around the U.S. to see who has the best year-round weather, nicest scenery, cost to re-locate there & house prices, and before you know it, the snow here in Spokane has melted, the sun comes out and we forget all about moving. So far, Redding, CA looks the most promising. And, oh yeah, whereever this perfect place would be, it's gotta be away from natural disasters -- hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, etc.

Add tornados and forest fires - not much territory left to choose from. :?

Hi guys: Add tsunamis (latest natural disaster in the news), landslides, avalaches, extreme heat or cold. What's left? My compromise is South Florida. I'm still colfortably riding. Worst thing is there ain't no twisties. Later, amigos. Lew

We all know earthquakes have to be taken seriously (my thoughts go out to everyone in Asia and beyond), but California has to be the best all-around climate for riding: year-round ridin' weather, twisties, objectionably-descent biker awareness from cagers, terrain variety (what I wouldn't give to have an actual mountain here in Michigan), you can legally split lanes, and it's home to Laguna Seca.

But I have to add how happy I was to get my bike out two days in row last week... the ice melted from the roads, had enough rain to wash the salt away, and the temp was a very reasonable 35-49. I'll be fine if I can average a couple days a month through March.

And what am I doing to pass the time between rides? Home-improvement projects, planning future vacations, watching football, and reading one book after another.

Is it Spring yet?? (Wouldn't be so bad if Michigan had a f@#$# mountain for snowboarding... the flat landscape is one thing I still haven't gotten entirely used to. Am I whining?)

--Oh yeah, I also stay up late on ocassion with an adult beverage and bounce around the Web. ;-)
