Hello everyone. I just wanted to ask a question about helmets. We all live here in the NW where even a 10 minute ride to the store can have gallons of water dumped on us without notice. As I ride to work almost everyday with my Strom I see alot of rain at times. I am having rain get inside my visor misting the outside, inside and my glasses all at once. I have 2 helmets now one from my So Cal days and a new one. Both let the rain in.

My Question. Is there a brand that others have found that seal better? Or a trick in keeping the rain and most of the mist out? Its very hard to see at times with three layers of mist and rain in your eyes.

Any help there would be great.

I have a KBC VR2 that seems to seal well. There is a lip moulded inside the visor that seals against the rubber surround of the eye opening.
The down side is that I don't think it vents very well IMO so you need anti mist treatments inside the visor for wet days.

My Shoei is exactly the same. Rain stays out, but it fogs easily.

XD seemed to keep the rain out, but fog's easily. I prefer my HJC Cl-MAX flip up, but every once in awhile a few drops of rain get in.

I use an HJC 33 open face with shield and it seems to snap into a pretty tight seal when the shield's lowered all the way (really have to tug it that last bit). Occassional fog when stopped way down by my mouth but it clears when moving. I haven't noticed any rain getting in so I guess that means whatever IS getting in is acceptable.

With my Arai XD, the only choice in really rainy conditions was to close the visor and try to see through the fog (visor and glasses), or to open the visor and try to see through the mist on my glasses. With a little Rain-X on my glasses, the second option worked OK, but wasn't ideal.

Two things solved this--I switched to a Scorpion helmet which WILL NOT FOG, and switched to contacts, eliminating the problem with my glasses. I haven't had any leaks with the Scorpion, but then again I haven't been out in the really bad stuff with it yet.

I'm on my second Shoei RF1000 and have never had rain get in even in a torrential downpour. It does fog easily but it's nothing a Foggy mask doesn't fix.

I also use the Scorpion and have no leaks or fogging problems. For my glasses I use a anti fogging product called Zooke. On an HJC I applied it on the shield with good results also.

Went to Cycle Gear today to ask if there was anything they could do about the faceshield on my KBC FFR helmet. They got the USA rep on the phone and he wanted to know my address so that he could send me a set of replacement shield ratchet plates that hold the shield, that's the "Ultra-Quick removal shield mechanism". I guess the 12,000 miles that I have put on it this year has taken it toll, and gotten loose.

I am also going to tout the Scorpion. I have had my Exo 700 Rivet in the rain quite a bit lately and so far no leaks and fogging is a non issue. My last lid was an HJC and it also kept the rain out pretty well but was a terrible fogger.
I have seen a few riders lately with what looks like and after market visor on their street helmets. This might be a cheaper solution rather than buying a whole new hat depending on how they are attached. Those might help keep the water out.

Thank you all for your input. I picked up a Scorpion 400 today. Went for a short ride with it and so for so good. Have to wait for the rain to really test out the seals. Fogging is a non issue even standing still so far. I like the self tinting face shield I got with it. Its seems quiter then either of my other helmets as well less wind noise. I tired on some of the HJC lids and found that my chin was really close to the guard. So I kinda had to pass on those.

Again thank you for the info and recommindations.
