After riding a Yamaha V-star 1100 classic for a few years and still trying to get the feeling back in my rear end, one back surgery and possibly another, I have two questions.
1) Being 6'3" and 220 lbs, would buying a DL650 make me look like a hippo on a scooter and

2) Would anybody who went through disc surgery be able to tell me if this bike would be comfortable for me or should I just give up biking?

Thanks.

I'm 6' 2" 240lbs and it fits me like a glove. I don't look (according to my wife) nor feel to big for the bike. This was a big consideration for me when buying a bike as well.

1) Actually no comments; I'm vertically challenged with 175 cm height. Needed a higher DL1000 seat for better riding position, though. One should also remember that DL650 dimensions are almost 1:1 with DL1000; by no means is it a small bike.

2) I have broken a vertebra years ago (actual medical term difficult to say even in Finnish so I don't even try describing it in English...) and every now and then my back keeps reminding me if I've been spending too much time in wrong position. Not with Wee-Strom! The riding position is extremely relaxed and long seat makes it possible to change posture a bit if needed.

I hve not had any seriouse back problems but....

I am 6' 220# and my wife thinks that the bike looks HUGE without me on it. I also just switched from a '99 v-star 650 to the little strom. My back would always hurt after a long ride on the star. Not so on the Strom. Your back will be in a better position for bumps on the strom...not hunched over in that sloucher cruiser position. But by all means if it hurts to ride, cunsult your physician first! He/She may be able to help you out with a back support to wear while riding.

Good luck, but don't worry about looking too big on the strom...It is pretty hefty itself

I'm 6'2", 215# and have degenerative disc disease. I (hope) I don't look like a hippo on my strom! I've had several comments on how big the bike looks. I guess most people are used to looking at sport bikes. One of the big reasons I got the strom was because of he seating position. I didn't want to be laid out like on a sport bike or laid back as on a cruiser. Sitting on the strom for me is very comfortable. After a long day my back might be a little sore, but much of that is I tend to slouch instead of sitting upright. I'm sure if I did my back exercises like I'm supposed to  the soreness would go away. Point is the soreness is more my fault and not the stroms.

6' 3" and would love to see 220 again someday! As for fit well you can judge for yourself.

I do have DL1000 seat instead of the lower 650 seat

Thanks for the picture. You helped me make up my mind.
Now I just have to wait until May to get rid of all this snow and start riding.
Eastern Canada is not very condusive with motorcycles.
We have about 4 good months to ride and that includes 1 month of long underwear.

radon_strommer,

Nice pic. Looks like you have a CB screen (me too). If it's a CB which height did you get and what position do you have it on. Mine's a 23.5" and in the second position. So far it's much better than the stock screen but I don't like the looks of the TALL screen. I'm able to look over it by about 3" and it's sometime a distraction. What's your overall eeling about your scren?

Hey Mike,

Yes it is CB screen. Its the 23.5" screen and I prefer it in the lowest position. In the Mid position the top is right at my line of sight, and in the hightest I look through it. I might bump it some when the really cold weather gets here for a little more wind protection though.
