Well, I am about to head out onto the road for an extended ride. Going to Utah for a couple of weeks for work, and then off to a work/fun ride to Chicago, and then back to New Mexico. As such, I need some more space for junk.
Being all poor right now, I've decided to make due with what I have around the house. I have a pair of these cases in my lab not doing a lot of anything:

Not huge, but they are water proof, milspec, and lockable. The problem becomes mounting them onto the bike.
I bought the Suzuki side cases when I got the bike (and I kind wish I hadn't), and I had to replace the package tray with the Suzuki top case mount. As such, I already have rubber bumpers and a manner of holes for bolting to.
I would go with a Givi style universal mounting, but, I've waited too long (I leave Sunday) and I'm poor, so, I'm working on making my own out of 1 inch square tubing.

I still have some work to do here, but it was getting late and my neighbors would call the cops if I was running the grinder after dark (small towns... sheesh). Basically, the thinking is this:
Two mounts will be bolted to the bike. One in the back and one in the front. The one in the back will have two slots cut into the front of it, and the front one will have a key lock that operates a movable bar. The top case will bolt to a simple steel square that has pegs on one side, and a slot on the other. You insert the pegs into the mount, hinge it down, press it into the rubber bumpers, and then turn the key to lock it down with the movable bar. The case itself will have two locks on it separately.
Anyway, I thought I would post a preview. A few more shots live here: http://images.snurkle.net/v/Autos/album40/DL1000K6/topcase/. I'll have it done tomorrow and maybe painted and will post a follow up then.
So what do you guys think? I figure that later I can get a bigger top case if I want, and either mount it to this, or just unbolt and use a new mounting system. No holes drilled into the bike at all, just using factory locations.
Hope everyone is having a good spring!
