View Full Version : Best shop for a tankbag in the PDX area?

I have two tank bags and neither of them are really working for me anymore. The magnets on my little one fit the Wee's tank but it's kinda too small to be useful - IOW I've convinced myself it won't work anymore - and the magnets on my big Joe Rocket don't all fit on the tank.

Cycle Gear used to be my default shop because it's so close but their selection can be frustrating at best. Now I only go there for chain lube and stuff like that. A Wolfman Explorer is currently topping my list but I'm not sure if the regular or lite is what I want - I suppose a Wolfman dealer in the area is too much to hope for eh? I was all set to check out the new BMW shop in Tigard yesterday but they're closed Sunday and Monday.

Are there any shops that carry a decent selection of tankbags and stuff? It's supposed to be kinda nice today so I may go running around just to do it but if I can narrow down my choices that'd be nice.

People on the KLR forums LOVE the Wolfman--it might be worth holding out for one even if you can't find it locally.

Portland Motorcycle (by the Airport) had quite a few tankbags last time I was out there, but I think they're also closed on Mondays, so the only other place I can recommend with a halfway decent selection is the place that gave you the cool personalized license plate...

Beaverton Honda/Yamaha has a fair assortment of everything.

The only shops I know that are open on Monday are Beaverton Motorcycles on 217 and Action Motorsports, one in Fairview and the other in Oregon City.
There may be others that I am not aware of. Beaverton has a few bags, I bought a cortech tailbag there last week for $50. I am not sure what Action MS has but they have a decent accessory shop, well, at least the one in Fairview does. You might call ahead though.
Enjoy the sun!

has the Mini Magnetic Tank bag from Tourmaster for $59. This is the bag a lot of VStrom drivers like, it sits beautifully on the tank and holds a $hit load of stuff. Comes with a rain cover and an audio out opening. Nice piece of work.

I use a Wolfman Explorer Lite (bought from Aerostich) and really like it. I've not yet come close to filling it, so it's got plenty of room for growth. It's very well made, fits the V-Strom perfectly, without looking too big or too small. It clips on quickly and easily, is secure when riding. I also purchased the rain cover for it, which is nice because it's got the velcro strips for the clear map pocket. I've never owned a tank bag before this one so I can't compare, but I can say I'm 100% satisfied with it.

I was out at Beaverton Honda on Saturday picking up my Givi E460 - which rules, I might add. How did I go so long without hard luggage? - and didn't see much for soft luggage. Then again there's so much stuff in that place it's no wonder I missed the bags. The Mini Tourmaster sounds like it might be just the ticket. If I can find something that fits the bill and not spend Wolfman money, so much the better.

Bob, Check out my Recon 19 at the next Breakfast Club.
I shopped long and hard for a tank bag and this is the ticket for me.
I really like the hydration bladder (optional), self storing rain cover and the way it firs on the tank. It also has straps to convert it to a back pack and it is actually pretty comfortable as one. The clear map pocket is a lottle small but I have used it and it is functional. I was concerned about relying on just the magnets but believe me, I have tested it and it passed.
I saw the pics of Riders and had to look into them. The new model even expands to give you more room for stuff. The price was right too... I got mine at newenough.com for under $80. Money well spent.
I hope this helps...

Last time I was out there the soft bags were on the wall between the back room with the tires and parts and the room with the jackets and helmets. I seem to recall they were sort of along one narrow vertical display.

I also cant recoment the Rapid Transit enough. I love this tank bag. Many inside and outside pockets, hydo system, sound system pocket, map case, Strap for shoulder or even a backpack converstion, as well as a build in rain fly. Fits well on the tank with magnets in a non scratch sleeves. Great tank bag. They even just put out a new on with and expandable bottem compartment.
