I just turned 50. It is time for a new bike. I always do a lot of
research and looking before I make a major puchase. I was originally
considering a Yamaha FZ-1 but after sitting on a V-Strom 1000 I fell in
love. It felt like an old friend having owned a lot of Dual Purpose
bikes.

The only hardship I have left is what should my initial offer be when I
buy one. I have not bought a new bike in many years and I do not have a
sense to what type of margin the M-Dealers are looking for. My initial
thought is to offer list minus 15% or around $7,600.

I would appreciate any thoughts or buying experience other V-Strom
owners have. I will be going in with $2000 cash and Pre-Approved with
my own financing.

Thanks
Kevin

Not meaning to talk you out of buying NEW, but there a few DL1000 w/ low milage & outfited to ride for a long trip right now. Seem most all V owners start adding all kinds of things right away. Mostly cause they start to see themselves going someplace. A windshield is usually the first thing to get.
Whatever you do, you'll be happy w/ your ride. Keep yourself informed by getting to know others V riders & you'll find yourself in a fine extended family.
Enjoy!

Good advise.

How was the trip to Junction? Could you please tell me the company that makes your wind sheild mount?

I bought my v strom used with 4k on it for 6200. I would say it is better than new with the accessories the PO added to it. I am not that for away we need to ride sometime. Woods in New Braunfels went down to 7800.00 and after taxes it ended up at 9200.00. Oh, it`s an 05

Charlie,
The TAR-07 was great. Richard really knows how to start up a good show.
You must get in on this thing. Richard is putting together some other rides so check out his sight. texasadventure.net
Mostly the riders were from all walks of life & fun to ride w/. The local talent really put themselves out for us. Food was good. Beer ice cold. No price gouging. There was a lot of sharing of special beverages during the evening's rest.
Richard did a 20 minute ft tire tube swap alone side the road for a rider. Now that is a host. I think he could have been even faster if he hadn't waited on the tube to get in his hands.
Will get the name of the bracket, very soon.
It was good to have breakfast on you at the CB in Katy, thanks again.
Gary is in CO. His wife flew in for a few weeks.
We stayed in T or C, NM for 5o Mayo. Neat fun, the whole town turns out.
His the back roads & did Chloride. Had to replace my rear Karp T. Put on a good street shoe for the quick paced ride back. T or C, NM to east of Lake Charles, LA in 16 hrs. That 650 really is a fine touring scooter.

It is quicksilver in color...have no idea what he wants for it...a new bike can be borrowed against(esp credit union)...to get in touch, go to the last format on page"want to buy bike"(under texas strom)

aren't going to move much off MSRP on an 07 this time of year, but all they can say is no. Always be willing to get up and leave if they won't meet your price.

Also, Suzuki has some great financing deals at very low rates. I have gone in and checked out the financing deals and not liking what they have to offer financed a one payment 30 days later, gone to my credit union and financed it there.

The big but to all of this is there are some verny nice used 1000's out there.

Good luck in your quest!

I got both a Fazer 1000 it is 2003 and a DL1000 it is 2006
They are different the Fazer is much faster like a Formula One, noicy, and if I had to garde it's confort is 8 but lots of Fun, the DL1000 got plenty of Torque very confortable for a long trip quite and It is OK for dirt roads although it is not really an Enduro
