Will mounting a shifter directly to the gear shaft have any adverse long- or short-term effects?
I removed the OEM linkage and shifter and installed one for a DR650 I got from RonAyers.com. The shift pattern is now 1 up and 5 down, and after a 90 mile test ride, I find I'm liking it quite a bit. The shifter is longer and fits my foot better, and rolling through the gears seems to feel more natural.
Also included a pic or two of my home-grown Stebel mounting bracket. The original idea belongs to others . . . I just oriented the bracket so the horn trumpets face forward. Quite the attention-getter . . .
