Hey Beartrooper, I'm located in Tulsa. I ride an '05 wee-red (fastest color).
I ride in town mostly, on weekends I can be seen with my daughter in tow, she loves to ride! Hope to hear from other okies.

I'm in OKC. Pretty busy for the next month or so, but maybe after that we can try to put a ride together??

Are we three the only okietroopers? My Mom moved to More last week....she's never seen a Vee....I sense a trip in the future. Hopefully I'll have new saddlebags to add to farkles-corbin seat w red trim, scorpion exhaust (carbon fibre) and cee bailey windsheild. Any add ons to your wee?
Any bags? I could use some input to help me decide on a nice pair.
Let me know your schedule in a month or two, who knows maybe maybe more sooners will reply by then?

Just got my Wee yesterday. Posted in the intro forum, being the newbie that I am. More later, my dog is bugging me to play frisbee. Okiemex, looking foward to a T-Town ride ... might even go crazy and hit Mohawk park!

Let me know your schedule in a month or two, who knows maybe maybe more sooners will reply by then?I've got a Givi tail truck. For saddlebags, a friend gave me some Hepco-Baker bags that come off a '99 Triumph Tiger. Mounted them to SW Moto racks. I was very tempted by the Caribou setup, if I hadn't gotten the H-B bags for free that's probably what I would have done.
Also have handguards and (oddly enough :)) Sonic Springs.

Some of the Concours guys have a ride to Meers scheduled on May 12th, maybe we can get a few guys together and crash that party.

Hi moved to Claremore from Great Falls, Montana in July. I rode the 650 down here. Start out with temperatures in the 60's and 40+ mile an hour winds, boy is that fun on a tall motorcycle. Then the winds died down and ran pretty much in 100+ temperatures. Was not the most fun I ever had on a ride.

I have a question on dealers in the Tulsa area? I need a ignition switch(key goes in but will not turn) ASAP as the 650 is my principle form of transportation

have not dealt with any Tulsa dealers, but Claremore Custom Cycles has treated me ok. not sure if they could get ignition switch or not.

I'm not to far from Claremore we may have to get together for a ride

I just had my 07 Wee delivered last Friday. I had it delivered because I'd never ridden a motorcycle before. I rode it all over Tulsa Friday and Saturday, but I'm hanging the keys up until after the BRC on May 5th and 6th in Drumright. I'm just asking for trouble.

Anyway, after I get licensed (May 7th), let me know if anyone would like to ride.

10 minutes from Hog Back Road, running between Luther and Jones. I am waiting for $ to buy crash bars and a skid plate. I have added Givi E21 bags, Genmar handlebar risers, MP Cycle Designs windshield, Madstad brackets Sargent Saddle. I really just use it to explore local roads, but it's fun putting stuff on it. I love this bike. Health problems have kept me from riding a lot in the last few years. Longest ride was OKC to Taos NM in 2001. Had a BMW K100RS for the trip.

I rode today breaking in a new pair of Aerostich boots. Man, am I having fun. My wife rides a Zook Burgman 400.

All the details are posted herehttp://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11986 . I'm signed up to take the course again here in Tulsa and actually finish it this time.

Monday, if time permits, I'm going to the DMV and take their riding test and get my license then. After what I learned during my one day at the BRC, I know I won't have any trouble passing the skills test for my license.

There is a group from work that rides on the weekends. If you are interested I can let you know more of the details.

Would love to go. I work saturdays, so it'd have to be a sunday thing. I've almost entirely given up on the weather in this town. Never know what the hell is going to happen 10 minutes into the future.

Ok Sunday it is. Only a 20% chance of rain that day. I know what you mean about the weather. I've lived here 7.5 years and I've never seen it rain like this before, but I'm sure we'll find a way around the weather. I own a blue DL650K7 and there is another guy in town that wants to ride this weekend and he owns a blue DL650K7. I'll PM you my cell number.

If anybody else is interested, just give a holler.

It occurs to me, many people may think nothing is going on as stuff ends up in PM land and no one has a clue there is stuff happening.

Dvdt and I are going to go for a ride Sunday from Tulsa.

This is the map:

http://www.google.com/maps/ms?q=Tulsa,+OK,+USA&ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=109196036556016286633.00000113016f312e6df2f&z=10&om=1

We are both fairly novice riders, so there will be near death experiences as best we can attempt. Just a quick ride to get to know one another and grab lunch somewhere more than 4 miles from our houses. If you want to come, PM me or him and let us know.

Mike

I have arranged for a Life Flight helicopter to follow us for the entire day, but I doubt we will need it since we all know my wee is faster. No need to go there.

LOL.

That's a hell of a typo.

Was supposed to read: "there will NOT be any near death experiences...."

1 word makes a lot of difference.

IE. "I can't believe that turtle bit me on the nuts, again."

See how relevent the word "again" becomes? :P

Mike, in truth I liked the original wording. Kinda added a special edge to the trip. I did a quick recon over to Sheridan this AM and the official meeting spot will be the Western Country Diner at 10AM. The address is 1905 S. Sheridan (just a bit North of 21st St., on the right if heading N.) Anyone else in the T-Town area is certainly welcome! I believe our destination is Lake Hudson, but on my screen I see the blue line on the map going thru cow pastures right into the country music festival in Pryor. I will bring proof of this. In any case ... see ya!

Hey! I'm here! I'm here!

Just bought my barely used 06 DL1000 last week and I've already put some pipes on it, dropped to a 16 tooth on the countershaft sprocket, put a techclusion TFI box on and my givi top box should be here tomorrow. Maybe I'll do some crash guards before I buy the tag. Maybe I'll hook up with you guys for a ride if I have any cash left for gas. This rain is keeping me from riding and forcing me to click the "buy it now" or "add to cart" buttons. Get me off this computer and on the road before I go broke.

I'm up here in Edmond. Just sold my KLR and am picking up a '05 Wee in Texas this Sunday.

My 05 wee and I just returned from 2900 miles to Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. It was a casual ride, 95% off the interstate. Absolutely no problems with the "wee". The longest day was 480 miles.

Last year in June did Barber Motorsports Museum, Birmingham, AL, Jack Daniels "refinery" in Lynchburg, TN and did the "Dragon". In August made the Wisconsin pilgrimage.

I live in Stillwater and am always looking for riders with which to share the adventure of the ride, talk bikes and rides and/or share coffee or a meal.

Hi all. I just picked up my k7 DL100 this last weelend. SWEET! One word says it all. I am use to a 94 GL1500SE and this is a wonderful break from all the weight. So far no farkle, but it is still early. Planning on bags, handle bar risers, taller/wider wind screen, and crash bars. One thing at a time. Hope to see others on the road. Keep the rubber side down.

Hi Okies! I'm in Choctaw and work evenings so I can usually ride before work, I just got my Yellow '08 Wee in Oct., it is so much fun! But, I'm keepin' the KLR, got to ride the Clayton trails once in a while. Hi ya Rich! I went by Cycle One the other day to buy some Sonic 7.5 shock juice for the KLR and it looked like they were shut'n down, the room on the west end had a "this space for lease" sign in it. What's up with that? I'll try again tomorrow. Here's the new bike......

Randy,

Mark and his landlord haven't been able to come to terms on a new lease, so he's looking at possibly relocating the business. He's still open there though.

I'm on the east side of MWC, so if you see a blue one with bags it's probably me. That yellow is really good looking. :)

Hi ya Rich! Thanks for the info on Cycle, I'll go by there ASAP. And thanks for complement on the DL650....I love riding it but my poor ole KLR is feelin' kinda orphaned. Maybe some tender lovin' on the front forks and then some trails at Draper will help!

Hey Newner,
I just got an 07 from New Orleans in November and am loving it. One thing every one warned me about it to watch for flood damaged bikes. I don't think mine got washed but just check the nooks and crannys to be safe. Maybe sometime we Okies can meet somewhere in the middle. I'm in Ardmore.

I am all for an Okie day, perhaps if the idea may gains interest if we can meet up somewhere in the middle and do a ride or just meet up for lunch. I noticed allot of harley people like to patronize the local rock cafe here in stroud. Maybe we can get something going like that since it is in the middle between OKC and Tulsa. I thought you might have been rubbing my nose in it that you had a V and I didn't by going back and forth.

One of these days...........

I have a Vee and all the Wee owners look down their nose at me! They are always bragging about how they never have any problems with the 650. :)

how do you guys do with this infernal wind?

I got "legal" yesterday, smart enough to realize my bike is bigger than the toys we used in the class, etc., so took a ride on my bike for the first time (other than in the neighborhood at 15 mph...) got on HiWay 9 and man it was a war with the wind at hiway speeds.

I hope our bikes are no worse than others??? it's just the wind, right?

anyway - wow - hoping for a more balmy day soon.

The wind can really push the bikes around. Keep a loose grip, relax, and enjoy the ride. My bud and I have a habit of riding into the wind when we start so we can enjoy the extra push when we are on the return ride.

This item all but eliminates the influence that wind has on a motorcyle rider, especially from the side. I have always rode with a semi loose grip in order to help fight fatigue, but since I have installed the Scotts wind is less of an issue. Its like the bike is on a rail, its so stable that its hard to believe. The biggest change that I've noticed is when passing an 18 wheeler with a side wind coming from the right, as soon as you go beside the rig and get out of the wind you instantly move 'bout 4 feet to the right. Then as you finish the pass and get out into the wind again, your forced back over to where you were by the wind. Whats happining IMO is that the wind is actually making you steer the bike when it hits you. The bike is just going where you point it, even if you dont mean to do it. With a stabilizer set fairly stiff the wind has much less of an effect on you because your not inadvertantly steering the bike when it hits you. In the above mentioned scenario, my bike might move 8-12 inches when the gust hits me but its never an "Oh my God" experience anymore. As a matter of fact, I often have my head 'bout ripped off in these circumstances because Im so relaxed when the wind hits me that my head is jacked hard to the side by the force on my helmet whilst my body and bike hold the line. I guess all I need now is a neck stabilizer, I wonder if Scotts makes one of those!:p

Ok, my rant is over now. Hey when are we gonna have another Okie ride day? I'd love to meet some of you guyz and galz. I work 2 weekends and then I'm off 2 so my chances are 50/50 of being off for one, but if I'm off, we'll be there. (I rarely leave without my sweetie on board)

I have yet to see a GS go somewhere you couldn't get a V-Strom. The biggest difference is price, however if you want to turn more heads when you guy buy your coffee at starbucks then you should buy a GS.

3day... I am SLOWLY breaking my butt in on this plank Suzuki calls a seat :).

I might have to buy a different seat, but I am trying to just get used to this one first. Went on a 2hr ride last weekend up arround Skiatook and back, and it about crippled me!

Anyone near me have a GEL or Corbin I could sit on sometime to see if there is a substantial difference? I hate to purchase something like a seat without knowing what it's going to be like... I like the price of the Zuk Gel seat, but I have read it's not a great improvement.

did you try "Performance Triumph/Suzuki" in western OKC? Or Moddrell's in Chickasha? They seem to have the inventory. I got mine at Performance when no one else could get one, and they came down $300 from MSRP over the phone - no b.s. and easy to work with. The guy even delivered it to me in Norman, 45 minutes out of his way, as I wasn't legal yet to drive it home myself.

The title of this thread makes me think you folks in Oklahoma are lucky...you're OK riders! That is a lot better than here in Utah, we are UT riders, I mean really! What is an UT rider? It could be worse we could live in Washington where I guess they complain a lot...WA riders. Or Idaho, as in; aint got no ID rider. And Hawaii? They must be friendly, HI riders.

The bikers in Kentucky are pretty slick, KY riders. And it would be alright to be a guy in Oregon, but a female biker? OR rider. Whoops!

Apparently the Maine people must be self-centered, ME riders. Or Colorado, what, do they share a bike? CO riders. But Pennsylvania...? Now thats just wrong!

Fork Brace options are the Murph's and Super Brace.

I have the Murph's (they both do the same thing) with no moving parts it's all about your preference to looks and price tag.

I agree with the improvement. I did 800-1000 miles without the brace, enough riding to really recognize the difference.

Kieth, Bruce, Robert, Bob,Jim............we have room for more and we could always take another vehicle and trailer........this trip will be mostly on highway until we head for Batopilis, then all bets are off, some may go the back way to Urique others may return to Creel but it will be fun.......

5-15-2009 to 5-24-2009 Annual ride Colorado Tour, mostly paved, some fire roads......lots of fun So far Kieth, Jim, Robert, same deal, put up deposit (this is the only fair way to reserve space)

All trailer users will share fuel expenses for the ride out and back. If anyone wants to ride with us and not trailer there is no charge and no trailer expense, just let me know. Kieth

I would look forward to riding this spring some with you guys. Gota go somewhere I can make it with a passenger because my wife has decided she loves riding :) Someone needs to help me convince her she needs her own bike.

HI,
BMW GS rider here that is switching to a vstrom.
Primary riding is backroads.
Would like to meet to ride/discuss with any vstrom riders in Tulsa area..

test rode a 650 vstrom and loved it, finding it difficult to find a 650 with ABS though..

Hope to see/ride with ya all soon..

I have never seen an ABS Wee, FWIW.. I guess they exist! I wish I had one, but I don't worry about it. So far my "normal" brakes are good and not tricky to feel or handle.

I am in Norman. If your travels get you to this part of the world you are welcome to check out my '08 DL650.

You have probably read that the fork brace is a good idea. I can't emphasize that enough. IMO it makes a world of difference, esp when it's windy, and when is it not windy....? The forks are just too flexible w/o it. I also have the Sonic Springs, which means you lose a bit of the cushy bump absorption, but the trade-off is worth it in the solidness and handling security you gain. I don't notice it at all now, except that the bike handles much more "true." that is about a $90 modification, and again, well worth it.

Sounds good to me!

FYI I am moving to Oklahoma City, should have my own place here by June. Till then I'm crashing with my brother and my gf's parents off and on. Just got a new job here in the city.

I lived in Edmond in high school but never got around to looking for the good motorcycle roads around here. I got spoiled living in the 918, where the twisties are a little closer. Any secret spots you 405 folk have to share?

New convert from KLR to Orange Wee. I'm in Choctaw, and I keep seeing someone else wearing the same dress to the prom on the way to work, so I'm not the only orange one in these here parts.

They do exist, even around the central OK area. Here's mine (09) at the park at Lake Heffner.

I've read your comments on fork braces, but since I've had my strom lowered I'm wondering how much improvement I'd get from the brace. I catch strong crosswinds almost every day when I commute on I-40 past the north end of Tinker AFB's runway, but to me it feels like the whole bike (to include me) is affected versus (for lack of a better term) "squirreliness" with the bikes steering/handlebars. Then again, I do not consider myself a motorcycling expert, I bought the Wee around Thanksgiving 08 and only have 3000 or so miles on it so far so perhaps I'm still too stupid to understand the improvement to the ride.

well, I'm jealous of your ABS! the fork brace effects the whole works, believe it. It will get rid of that "entire bike moving around" feeling. It is hard to believe how much it improves things, but IMO it is an absolute must have. It's not just that the front end will feel better - it takes the "oh s---" out of riding in the crosswinds. Any vehicle is vulnerable to wind at some point, but that out of control feeling is not fun.

let me add that as I've gotten back into riding after 25 years off bikes.. the fact that I've piled up some decent mileage on the Wee by now is also a big factor in how I handle the wind. I am adamant that the brace helps a ton, but I also don't soil myself when it's windy like I tended to do at first. So gaining experience and not freaking out helps.. but certainly the bike is MUCH more stable with the brace.

good luck - I'll keep an eye out for you when I'm riding around.
