To all of my friends in Florida, I have set up a Florida Troopers usergroup. This will allow me to make your forum more powerful, and gives you more "power" and tools than the regular memberships. At the moment, joining the group is public. After a few weeks, i will make it private and several members of the Florida Troopers will be invited as moderators, and they will be able to authorize who is in the group.

To join, go to your User CP and scroll to the bottom of the page and find "Group Memberships". Join there.

Its hot in Indiana, must be miserably hot in FL.

BTW, I will be in Tampa from September 16-18. :)

Yep . . . . . "PowerGal" she is! :D

From what I've seen thus far, Winnie is also a fantastic lady.

In Tampa? What part?

You up to lunch or possibly dinner on Monday the 17th? Maybe we could have a "Florida Meet and Greet Howboucha" or something like that.

Jennifer has a meeting, so this is one of those tag along trips. Fly in Sunday, leave Tuesday. Staying at a Hyatt with a Tampa address. Will post the actual info soon.

I may be fishing all day Saturday, but will see.

Hitting 100 degrees here tomorrow, almost got there today.

I see two Hyatts in Tampa, one downtown and one on the shore of Tampa Bay.

Here's the downtown one's location:

Here's the one by the Bay:

Let us know which one and we shall see if we can make it over there.

Basically one is downtown and one is on Courtney Campbell Causeway near the airport. Have you guys ever ridden over the Sunshine Skyway on a Mo Sicle? That's a lot of fun.

Rd

Oh you mean riding over the bridge that fell back in the 70's?

Actually I did ride over that bridge, once. That was in a car and to be quite honest, I couldn't wait until I was off that sucker.

Haven't been on the Sunshine Skyway since and quite frankly, don't intend to, either in a car or on a motorcycle.

Now if I had one of those James Bond kind of multi-mode vehicles that uses a parachute to fall freely to the surface of the water and then becomes a boat, then I might consider going over the bridge once again.

The old one had a metal grate on the top of the bridge, been over it several times on a motorcycle, even in the rain. Once on a duel Sport with knobbies. Was not a good feeling.
But now I am older and smarter (or more afraid) I won't do it again. :)

Man, what a couple weenies :) Lets go find some corn and soybean fields to show Brendan than .

I rode over half of that sucker on my bicycles last week. No steel grates. Honest. It's a beautiful trip on a motorcycle. How about the Gandy then?

Hi, shakyjake. You should try to come out for a group ride sometime. We just had a ride in your neck of the woods this past weekend, in fact. It's okay if you're not on a Strom, there's usually a few non-Stroms on every ride (this last one had a Harley and a pair of VFR's, for example).

Hey guys, kinda new to this forum been kinda hanging out for awhile. I got my first V-strom in Sept., haven't ridden it as much as I should because of my HD. However I really like the V-strom and look forward to joining some of the group rides.

Hey sleepman, how was that ride down to the keys?
We are doing a 4 day weekend ride down there next month with some of the begginer biker .org friends next month, staying at the holiday isles in Islamarada, then on to the Ranchero, in Key West. Any expirience at either hotel?

The ride was great, my main advice is take Cardsound rd out of Florida City instead of 1, there is construction on 1 before you get to Key Largo and the traffic is bad. Haven't stayed at either hotel, we went straight through to Key West and we stayed at the Blue Lagoon Motel.

Test drive a wee-strom in Tampa for me?

Hey FL Riders, I'm up in Tennessee and I'm buying a DL650 in Tampa, replacing my tragically totaled DL1000. The price is too good to be true, and it's only got 3,500 miles on it. Before I close the deal and either fly down or have it shipped up, it would be really amazing if somebody local who knows the Stroms could check it out for me. Is there anybody in the Tampa area who's up for a test drive?

Email me direct - levijw@gmail.com

Thanks heaps,

Levi

Every time I pick up another bike I wonder why, because IMO, Florida is about the WORST state anywhere in which to own a motorcycle. It's flat, hot and straight for the most part. My riding season is limited to November through April here. It's a 12-hour boring blast on the super slab to the Georgia and North Carolina mountains. When it's warm enough to ride up there, it's too hot to ride from here to get there, which is what blew my summer plans this year.

But somehow I'm not comfortable without a bike in my garage.

I feel your pain, it was a brutal Summer here in SFL. I gave up riding to work around mid-July because I was arriving soaked in sweat. Finally it's cool enough now to ride again.

OTOH, the Yankees get 3 months a year to ride, if they're lucky. Plus they never know when they'll crash on ice. And their bikes are ruined by salt, they have to "winterize" them when they park it for the season, squirrels eat their wires, etc.

I'm really hoping to wear the edges off my tires on the FLC2C ride this weekend. I get to use about 1/8th of the total tread; just the strip down the middle!

The riding down here does suck, but at least it's riding. I grew up in Halifax and lived in Calgary for 14 years before moving to the states so I'm familiar with short riding seasons and wearing enough clothing to look like the Michelin Man.

Lived in Louisville, KY for two year before moving south. There was some nice roads and scenery there and you could ride almost year round but the winters were suicidal drab and there wasn't much to do.

I guess no place is perfect.
