I just got back from an 8,000 mile round trip to Alaska. It was beautiful and fun -- my first time doing something like this on a motorcycle. I could not have chosen a better machine than my wee. I met the nicest people, had marvelous adventures, and explored everywhere in Alaska that the road went (well, mostly anyway). Odysseus went to Dust To Dawson; to the Arctic Ocean; and to Glacier Bay. If you are interested, I invite you to take a look at my blog where I have pictures and stories posted. very envious of your retirement mine is a few years away so still planning my trips. Have just returned from a trip to Florida from British Columbia on my V strom 650 (no name for mine yet) went via utah visiting Zion valley, Monument Valley then through the southern states to Florida where my son lives. From there flew to England as its where I am orriginaly from so I am a little envious of you being in Europe. My retirement will probabaly be split between UK and BC for several years until myyself and my wife decide where home is. My return ride from florida came up through the centre of th USA with no bad weather until last 2 days. Went to Mount Rushmore and visited Yellowstone national Park fantastic riding. Bike proved to be amazing didnt camp but cheap motels are in abundence as you would know. My goal is an Alaskan trip and perhaps across canada maybe one day then its europe. Which I have seen plenty of (having been lucky enought to have lived in Switzerland for 3 years) but not on a motorcycle. So plenty to look forward too keep posting on your blog it gives all us older guys plenty to look forward to
