Mike,
do have any ride sheets or suggestions for Saturday? Looks like we will have a few of us coming in on Friday night. Looking for something with a dirt/pavement mix. Is the steakhouse right on hwy 12? It's been awhile since I've been through there. Looking forward to meeting the troops there

If you want a fairly long ride, look at an early departure from Lolo, head south on 93 and up Lost Trail Pass, east down Chief Joseph Pass into the Big Hole, then to Wisdom. At Wisdom, either turn south and go to Jackson, then double back through the Pioneer Scenic Byway to Wise River. You can then either come back and up/over Chief Joseph/Lost Trail and north to Lolo . . . or you could come in the Mt. Haggin back road to Anaconda, then north westerly toward Philipsburg but turn west on the Skalkaho Road (dirt) which will pop you out at Hamilton in the Bitterroot. That's a long day, but do-able and still get back in time for evening food/beverages. Another choice is to head up Highway 12 and take any number of routes off of it onto the Lolo Corridor road, over Graves Creek to Petty Creek and I90, or over Fish Creek and down toward I90 - though you can take dirt roads back into Missoula in alternative to I90. Those can be as full of days as you'd like, too. Let's visit!

Lolo Ride Day riders -
For those of you pondering the Magruder Corridor ride, parts of that road have been closed on the Idaho side due to fire issues. I'd highly recommend checking with the Forest Service/Ranger Stations prior to trying that ride. Hard to say what will happen between now and then for weather but right now rain is not in the forecast. Other area roads appear to be open at this point. I'll update you later in the week/weekend. A bit smoky today - varies from day to day depending on winds. M

Thanks Mike, I've checked the website and it looks like there are some restrictions on the Macgruder road. We'll have to keep and eye on it and devise a plan "B" if it doesn't improve.

Woohoo! Only a couple days away from the first ever Ride the 'Root Day! Blue skies at the moment in Lolo - all depends on those winds from the south and north. Be safe on your way over and looking forward to seeing you. Remember, Lolo Steakhouse for a discounted dinner Friday night, then on to the Pancake Breakfast at the school Saturday morning, routes of your choice during the day, a car show at the school if interested, and an evening of food and music and fun up the road at Travelers Rest Station (3 miles up Highway 12).
See you in a few! M

Need some ideas for this Saturday's Lolo Ride Day? Here are some pavement/dirt combo route ideas. Check in at Pancake Breakfast at Lolo School between 7am-10am and we'll have someone there to help point you in the right direction . . .
DIRT-PAVEMENT RIDE OPTIONS Short (less than 3 hours round trip) 1. Elk Meadow/Lolo Pass Road (3 hours): Ride Highway 12 west out of Lolo to the well-marked “Elk Meadows Road” (Forest Service 451) turn off to the left. Dirt road from there until Lolo Pass. Rejoin Highway 12 and return to Lolo. Lolo Pass Visitor’s Center, Lolo Hot Springs and Restaurant, Lumberjack Saloon (turn at Graves Creek, go 1 mile) along the way back on Highway 12. Or, do the reverse – go to Lolo Pass, turn on the Elk Meadows Road and ride it back down to Highway 12. 2. Fish Creek/Wagon Mountain/Petty Creek/Graves Creek Loop (3 hours): Ride Highway 12 west out of Lolo, up just past Lolo Hot Springs, turn right on Fish Creek Road (well marked). Ride Fish Creek Road until meet Wagon Mountain Road, turn right, continue on to the Petty Creek/Graves Creek road and ride back out on Graves Creek, past the Lumberjack, to Highway 12 and back to Lolo. 3. Miller Creek/Swartz Creek Loop (3 hours): North on Highway 93, turning right onto Miller Creek just before entering Missoula (just across the Buckhouse Bridge). Continue up Miller Creek (upper Miller Creek) and onto Forest Service Roads 4245 and 4244 respectively, to Schwartz Creek Road (Forest Service 502), and thereafter out to I90 near Clinton. Back to Missoula/Lolo. 4. Nine Mile Prairie: (3 hours): North on Highway 93 through Missoula, to Bonner, onto Highway 200, up to Johnsrud Park turnoff. Turn left and take the dirt road along the Blackfoot, eventually taking you to Nine Mile Praire area where it puts you back on Highway 200 at the Roundup Bridge. Return to Missoula/Lolo via Highway 200 and Highway 93. Medium (5 hours or less round trip) 1. Graves Creek/Petty Creek/Southside Road (3-4 hours): West on Highway 12 to Graves Creek turnoff (to the right), past the Lumberjack Saloon and up and over onto Petty Creek, popping you out near Alberton. BEFORE crossing the Clark Fork River, however, turn right onto the Southside Road. Ride dirt road to Kona Ranch/Big Flat area, turning on Big Flat Road, then turning into the Blue Mountain Road all the way to Highway 93. Turn right and back to Lolo. 2. Fish Creek/Southside Road (4-5 hours): West on Highway 93, past Lolo Hot Springs, turning right on Fish Creek Road. Travel until connect with I90. I90 to Petty Creek Road turn off near Alberton, cross the river, turn left on Southside Road. Ride dirt road to Kona Ranch/Big Flat area, turning on Big Flat Road, then turning into the Blue Mountain Road all the way to Highway 93. Turn right and back to Lolo. 3. Fish Creek/I90/Petty Creek Loop(4-5 hours): Same as Fish Creek route above but instead of turning onto Southside Road, continue on Petty Creek Road, which will turn into Graves Creek Road, taking you past the Lumberjack Saloon and back to Highway 12 and left to Lolo. 4. Skalkaho/Rock Creek Loop: (4-5 hours): South on Highway 93, through Hamilton, just past Hamilton the highway will curve to the right but you continue straight on the well-marked Skalkaho Road, which will then turn east and shortly turn into a dirt road. Up over the Skalkaho Road, thereafter turning left (north) onto the Rock Creek Road (Forest Service 102). Continue on to I90 at Rock Creek Lodge and turn west for Missoula/Lolo. 5. Big Flat/Nine Mile (5+ hours): North on Highway 93, turning left before Missoula onto Blue Mountain Road. Ride Blue Mountain Road, turning into Big Flat Road, turning right across Kona Ranch Road and river. Turn left on Mullan Road, out past Stone Container mill to Frenchtown. From Frenchtown, cross Interstate and take north side frontage road out to 6 Mile Road and continue on 6 Mile Road until connects with Nine Mile Road. Continue on Nine Mile Road (northwest) until coming Pardee Road, turn left and come out at Dry Creek intersection with I90 just west of Superior, MT. Return to Missoula/Lolo via I90 or, for extended dirt road travel, take either the Fish Creek or Petty Creek turnoffs and hop over to Highway 12/Lolo Creek back to Lolo. 6. Garnet Ghost Town (4 hours): North on Highway 93 through Missoula to I90, then east to Bonner and up Highway 200 along the Blackfoot, past Potomac, to the Potomac/Garnet Recreational area turn off (to the right). Dirt road to Garnet Ghost Town, and thereafter watch the signs to lead you out to Bearmouth on I90. West on I90 back to Missoula/Lolo. 7. Stemple Pass Loop: (4-5 hours): North on Highway 93, through Missoula to I90, to Bonner. Onto Highway 200, up along the Blackfoot all the way to Lincoln. At Lincoln, turn right onto the Stemple Pass Road (dirt). Will take you up and over the Continental Divide, popping you out on the Fletcher Pass/Prickly Pear Roads just outside of Helena. Return either over Fletcher Pass or, go via Helena and return over McDonald Pass and Highway 12 to I90, back to Missoula. 8. Jocko Loop (4-5 hours): North on Highway 93 to I90, west on I90 and pick up Highway 93 again at the “Y” junction, heading north. Just at the big bend turn toward Arlee, go straight and connect with the Jocko Road OR go through Arlee and thereafter turn right onto the Jocko Road turnoff. Take the Jocko Road (turns into dirt) over to the Placid Lake/Seeley Lake area and return home on Highway 83 to Clearwater Junction/then Highway 200 to Bonner/ then I90 and Highway 93 back to Lolo. Long (more than 5 hours) 1. Lolo Corridor Ride (6+ hours): West on Highway 12. Over Lolo Pass and down to Lochsa Lodge area, turning off to the right at the Parachute Hill Road. Take Parachute Hill Road to the Lolo Corridor Road, running southwest to Syringa or Kamiah? (Need more info on this one) 2. Lochsa/Kelly Creek/Hoodoo Pass/Trout Creek Loop (7-8 hours): West on Highway 12. Over Lolo Pass and down to Lochsa Lodge area, turning off to the right just before Lochsa Lodge turnoff, turning right at the Parachute Hill Road. Take Parachute Hill Road to the Lolo Corridor Road. Turn north onto Toboggan Ridge Road, toward Moose Creek, then through Kelly Creek area, then north on main road up to Hoodoo Pass/Idaho-MT line, down Trout Creek to Superior, MT. Home to Missoula/Lolo via I90, or dirt options off of I90 via Fish Creek/Lolo Hot Springs/Highway 12 or Petty Creek/Graves Creek/Highway 12 back to Lolo.
