2012 Oil Filter

Is the oil filter on the 2012 Wee the same as the older models? Sorry if this has come up before. I'm on the Motorcycle app and nothing comes up on the search.

We interrupt this marriage to bring you the riding season.

Recommended means John Weldon cut it apart and liked what he saw. He has not checked all makes.
As for being the same filter as for the 2011 and earlier DL650, it looks like it is. The aftermarket ones are the same part anyway (e.g., KN-138 or KN-138C for the K&N filter) even if the Suzuki OEM one isn't for some reason.

It appears Suzuki changed suppliers so there is a new part number for filters. The bottom line is all V-Stroms take the same filters.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014+ DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012+ DL650s

Question

I'm wondering if anyone has had a rock or other debris knock a hole in the oil filter. Put a Shinko 705 on front and been riding off road a bit more lately and the filter is pretty dinged up.

2005 Suzuki SV1000R, 1985 Yamaha XT608N, 2012 Suzuki DL650AL2, over 20,000 miles already!

It has happened. One Glee rider even had a piece of road debris hole the filter and the heat exchanger behind the filter. Some people have won lotteries too but none of those things are likely occurrences.

Yup, mine got punched on I-95 in Providence, RI. It can happen anywhere, not just offroad.
