I use my dl 650 2012 with 20k on a daily basis and yesterday without further notice it sputtered twice quickly then died.... On a major highway while passing a vehicle I would have been toast. Any idea as to what it is?? The f1 indicator light goes on only after cranking it a few times and the red light does not blink as per the manual...help
:frown2:
Stator failure has caused more than a few DL650s to suddenly die while riding them.
Search stator failure on this site and you will find a lot of useful information.
I don't suppose you could have run out of fuel. If it cranks, the battery is supplying power. There are a lot of things that can contribute to the engine quitting. Lack of fuel and lack of spark are the two most common issues.
after many test we concluded it was the ECU that failed ....Bummer 1090.00 + tax + shop time 1500.00 for a almost 3 year old bike ...NOT impressed.:furious::furious::furious:
That's very rare unless somebody tried electric welding on the bike with the ECM connected. Did you swap with another bike and the problem travel to the other bike? That's the best check method.
Buddy had same problem - turned out it was a crank position sensor.
Who did the diagnostics?
I'm with greywolf on this - ECU failure is as rare as rocking horse shit on any bike, never mind a V-strom (unless welding etc).
