Trying to add up my consumption of watts. So far heated grips (Factory). My Gerbings heated liner. And I want to add some bright LED spot/road lamps. Is my charging system up to this or am I going have to rob Peter to pay Paul.
Figure you have 125-150W to play with. The best thing to do is to mount a voltmeter and check it against a hand held meter on the battery to establish any correction factor that might be involved. 12.6-12.8V corrected is the break even area. More and the system is charging. Less and it is discharging.
I run Gerbing's heated vest, factory heated grips and 10w X 2 LED spots (Cree), and of course headlights. No problem with that load. I have on very cold days added heated gloves, and still no problem. (2014 V 650)
I've been known to venture out in sub freezing temps and may run a heated 90W jacket liner, grips, gloves, pants liner and boot insoles. When turned up near maximum, I have to cut out one headlight.
