Off of the bike, the cases can act as coolers:

BUT!!!! Here is a important note; mount the cases up as high as you can on your SW-Motech racks. If you don't, you will go down during aggressive cornering. Mine are mounted as high as I could get them and I still nicked the forward, lower corner of the case on some of the turns I made. I noticed one rider, in a previous post. who has quite a bit of case "hanging down" below the racks. I would rip those off of the bike in a heartbeat; or go down.

[Final note, I no longer use Pelican cases for side luggage. I don't use any side luggage cases at all. All of my gear packs into two dry bags strapped to my passenger seat area and I swapped out my 1450 case for one of my 1550 sidecases which acts as my topcase now. A much better setup for the riding that I do.]

I now see the ridiculousness of my earlier question re a gallon of milk fitting. Those 1550's are cavernous!

A case of beer? I can (and do) get a case of brew home by distributing the cans or bottles throughout the various and sundry pockets and the integrated back-pack thingy (the technical term) of my jacket. God forbid you go down with 24 bottles of beer in your jacket-know what I mean Vern?

You forgot to mention the dog food as well!!!

During the summer months, I don't have another vehicle. I ride my bike everyday and do all of my errands off of it.

In the picture of the left case, up at the forward end, you will see two plastic containers stacked on top of each other. They hold all of my tire repair necessities, including an air compressor. I DON'T travel anywhere without them.

When I used the Pelican cases, the right case held, my tent, sleeping pad, ground cloth and a pair of shoes. The left case contained the tire repair containers, a bag of clothes, my sleeping bag and some books. The 1450 top box carried food and rain gear.

This is how I ride now and like it a whole bunch better!!!!

For weekend trips:

For extended trips: (A small extra drybag and two 1 gallon fuel containers on either side of the topcase.).

Everybody has to figure out what works for them.

The 35 liter 1550's did well for me for 3-4 years, but I'm a stickler for fitting EVERYTHING inside the luggage and not strapping anything on. That always meant I left things behind on multi-day trips, usually clothes, sometimes the computer, sometimes the cooking gear, sometimes extra rain gear, and so on.

I just went to the 40 liter SKB cases instead. It's only an extra ten liters of storage but it means a lot to me.

I blame the recent switch on a Nova Scotia trip in September with 8 or 9 beemer riders. They carry bottomless pits on those bikes. If you've ever ridden with those guys on multi-day trips, you already know what I'm talking about.

I'm thinking of getting the SKBs as well, the 1550s work good for my day to day needs, however four touring I'd like a little more capacity

I would continue to use the 1550s for day to day and not have to unload them when I go touring

Are those the 1550's in your pic or the SKB's?

I like what you have done with your avatar. This is one of the roads that I was sad about missing this year. I also missed seeing "Meggie" too.......
