In the article they took a shot at us Strommers too, calling us sandal-and-sock wearers--I had to re-read the last few paragraphs to even realize the Strom had "won". It just goes to show how well conceived the Wee is, and how it is far beyond others in class, regardless of price. Its a hard bike to improve on.
I would have enjoyed them testing the old Wee with the new bikes. I suspect the old Wee would have been competitive.

I think they greatly improved the looks on the new Wee, especially from the side, the sculpted tank, and rear fairing panels, and the lack of gaudy graphics, only the little S emblem.

I'd tend to trust the acceleration and 1/4 mile figures - for an engine with nominally the same HP as the old one, it's noticeably quicker. Informally tested on a ride with a KTM 990 in front, me on an L2 an F800 and a couple of older Wee's. Relative acceleration over several 100k's 990, L2 DL, F800, old DL's.

The stock seat is better. It's not perfect, but it's better.

The Wee, not in the current year or earlier years, could get near 3.5sec 0-60mph--unless you consider .5 -.6sec 'near'.

I'll buy 4.0sec or the 4.1sec the Sept 2006 issue of Cycle World posted when the Wee won Motocycle of the Year, but that's a big difference from 3.5 sec if you ask me. I think the Haybusa is often rated at 0-60mph in 2.9sec, FWIW.

They also have the new model 2012 coming in at 3.98 in the 0-60. Hard to believe exact same time, same magazine, 8 years apart. Although the L2 is a hair quicker in the quarter 12.45 vs. 12.52 for the old Wee. I still find 3.5 hard to believe.

Also the old one stopped 10' shorter without ABS!

I have seen 2.5 and 2.6 for the busa in a few mags. I think the busa or the ZX14 is still king of the 0-60, but not the 1/4.

It's true because I counted - one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi, four Missis...- 60mph. Works every time.

I found out when my kids were in high school that socks with sandals are a great way to prevent teenagers from asking for rides. It helps if you insist on getting out of the car a few times. I would never wear them that way without a teenager to blame it on. .
