Does anyone have suggestions on how to find/buy the muffler end to add to tubing creating a tool tube looking like the actual exhaust so it appears to be symmetrical from the rear? And, what to use to attach as the tool tube?

i used a stock can off my old 1250 bandit. I wore out 2 sawzall blades and a cut off wheel and only cut about 6 inches. i gave up on that idea. so now i don't care if it matches or not.

Some folks have asked about making mine look like a matching muffler. I prefer to have a convenient locking cap and the fact that the whole thing was really inexpensive.
You could , with a bit of effort, make the tube end cap resemble the muffler tip. Your pic shows no side bags, a lot of us have attached the tool tube to the bag frame. |

Looking on the parts fiche's it seems that you can't buy just the tip. Perhaps you can find a salvage yard that has a wrecked dl650 (it's usually front end damage), or you can find someone who has swapped their stock exhaust for an aftermarket one and will sell or give away their old exhaust.

I couldn't figure out a cost effective way to do it, so I made up something "close enough" that I can lock and seals reasonably well.
Short of sawing the end off a real muffler or doing some extensive fabrication work, I couldn't think of a simple way to do it. It doesn't help that the OEM muffler end is oval, not round either.

Don't try too hard to make it match...too boring. You get much better questionable looks when you make the end either look like nitrous or a Gatling gun.

Thanks guys for the very useful information! I think I'll just can the idea and just go with a regular tool tube and attach that. I do have Givi side bags and have the frames that I can easily attach the tube to...

BobA, you coulda used some silver or Chrome paint on the cap with a black knob. Close enough for fast passes.
