Hmmm....seems that Suzuki has decided to NOT produce the rear cylinder intake camshafts. The part # is 12730-17G00 and fits several years of the Wee plus several year models of the SV650. What the heck??!! Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought it was law that a manufacturer selling vehicles in the U.S. was required to provide parts for 10 years.

I'm not getting your meaning. 12730-17G00 is listed in the parts fiche. Did a dealer tell you they couldn't get one or what? Parts may be back ordered or temporarily out of stock but not produced is impossible. They have to be produced to build the bike. 12730-17G00 is an SV650 cam only and was never used on a stock DL650. Some Wee owners use SV cams for increased top end power.

Part # should have been 12730-27G00 which is the rear cylinder intake cam for the Wee. Most online parts dealers are showing it as a discontinued item. From Blair at SVRacing, this is the same cam from the earlier SV650's up to '02 and is referred to as Gen 1. Perhaps Suzuki is going to change the Wee's part number over to the SV which would be 12730-20F00?

Part numbers change when the part or the supplier changes. 12730-27G00 is listed only for the DL650 and it is discontinued. Blair may see it as a performance upgrade for the DL from the SV. Availability is weird though. The rear intake cam is not listed in any Wee fiche.

when my 99 SV needed rebuilding in 06, the original valve guides were no longer availble oem. They were available aftermarket or the oem solution of buying a whole new updated head

If the manufacturer has another component that is considered a "service replacement" for the discontinued part they often will discontinue an older part number. Why stock 2 or 3 part numbers when 1 will cover all replacements? Sometimes a service replacement part is a better part as they learned from time/experience on what was wrong with earlier designs.
While it may seem that a one part fits all approach on a camshaft wouldn't be good, as long as it passes the emissions standards and is a direct fit most owners wouldn't notice any difference.
