I have an 08 wee and inadvertantly over filled the oil due to a leak from the oil filter. What can i expect problem wise? Air filter problems, etc? I ran the bike a good deal in this condition(starting up in garage to keep battery up etc).

It would need to be significantly over filled to cause a problem. If in doubt, check the airbox for oil coming through the breather tubes. Starting it in the garage is a bad idea though. Water and other byproducts of combustion create acids. Unless the system gets hot enough to get rid of the water throughout, the acid will attack, particularly in the exhaust. That takes about a 20 minute ride. With no load to increase heat plus the low revs, idling takes significantly longer. Idling also doesn't charge well. Starting may take more of the charge than you put back. Get a battery tender.

Very good advice. Battery tender for sure and push it around if you are not planning 20 minutes or more on the road.

How far would you estimate you overfilled? One of the detriments of over filling the oil is over-pressurizing the crankcase thereby causing oil leaks. As the engine's RPM increases, so does the oil pressure to a leveling point. If the oil level is too high, the pressure under the piston during the downstroke can become so great that a seal is distorted and starts to leak. Once a seal is distorted, it seeps....then leaks.

It's unlikely to be a problem if it's only been idled.
Just get the oil level down, ride and forget. Pete |

What prevents you from pulling the drain plug and refilling to the proper volume - are we talking about 15 minutes here? No need to gambler...

You can suck excess oil out using a syringe and a flexible tube. Easy.
