First off, thankfully your still with us! I'm in healthcare, I've seen lots of people go through this, lots of them still ride. My dear old Grandma had an above knee amputation (AKA) in the mid 60's and I wouldn't want to be the one who told her she couldn't do something. Stay positive, be diligent on your rehab and don't settle, your life isn't over. My positive vibes and prayers are coming your way. Hopefully we can share a road together when your mended.

My wife has been all over the Sierra's and the west coast on her Burgman. I ride it a bunch, too. The under seat storage area is crazy big. I admire your attitude. Grit like yours is what makes motorcycle folks the best. I hope to ride with you one day.

Thank you all. that site looks like a good one. Maybe I will be able to keep the wee after all.

I sold my Gold Wing today. The wee may be close behind. The problem is that I put to many farkels on it. It's a 2011 with too much stuff & with no leg I can't take it apart. It will be one hell of a give away when I decide to let it go.

I hope you don't feel you have to sell the wee. But if so, perhaps someone from this site who lives relatively close to you can help you with disassembling the farkles. But more than anything I am wishing you the best in overcoming your adversity and hoping that you can inspire the rest of us.

Maybe you only need the right "scoot" while you only have one wheel -- something to move your butt around, up, and down. Surely some one of the mechanic's stool versions would help. Alternative: with a bit of help from your friends, lay your bike on its side, de-farkle, and reverse. It'll take some extra time but maybe you have more of that than you want anyway.

Best of success in adapting to your changed conditions!

This young lady's story - and her new ride - may be of interest:

I wonder if it's early to sell the strom before you know what your capabilities might be. As the months roll by is there a chance that you might be able to ride it?

I once rode with a Canadian through Baja who had lost a leg, somewhere well above his knee. He had a wooden peg and had a special cup on his Harley where he placed his 'leg' when he rode. His bike was a custom he built and I believe he had a hand shifter.

Good luck.

I'm surprised you're already planning on selling the Wee. I'd wait it out and see how things progress over the next few months, it's a bad time to sell a bike anyhow, you'll get more for your bike in the spring.

I have a hand injury that has kept me off my Wee for the last 2.5 years, I almost sold it to you if you remember. I keep it because I'm determined to ride it again. I hate the idea of selling the Wee and buying another down the road, especially after it's been farkled.
