On my 2011 DL650 the resistance of the sender starts to change when ~1 1/2 gallons are used with the tank filled to the bottom edge of the fill ring.
The reason I know this bit of trivia is because I did lots of measurements when I was designing my "fuel gauge corrector". I needed resistance measurements at various sender positions. Ron |

I pulled into a gas station almost immediately after seeing the gas pump blink the other day and my bike took 3.92 US gallons.

I was in a bad mood this weekend and took it out with my throttle hand - first bar dropped at around 80 miles (!), filled up at 82.3 and put 2.137 gallons in.
Worst mileage I've ever seen in 21k miles. |

My top bar drops out right about 1.9 gallons of fuel use.
I've seen 40mpg to 65 mpg. The resulting miles could be anywhere from 76 to 124. The useful information is knowing how much fuel has been used, and remaining, at each indicator. My bike .... 4th bar gone - 2.80 gal 3rd bar gone - 3.75 gal 2nd bar gone (gas pump icon blinking) - 4.30 gal 1st bar flash - 4.70 gal |

Ozart and Ron,
What years are you bikes? I have an 06 and hit the little flashy pump but didn't notice it for awhile then was paying attention and the final bar and pump were flashing. I didn't want to push the bike after having it for a week. |

Mine's a 2011.
I've modified the fuel measurement system. I added a circuit board that measures the resistance of the sender and turns the appropriate bar(s) off as each full gallon is used. After the 5th gallon is used the bottom bar starts flashing to indicate "reserve". Since my tank holds a bit over 5.5 gallons, the "reserve" is about 1/2 gallon. Ron |

85-105 is a average range.. higher numbers is ofcourse likely seen on either flats with little throttle play...
I am usually seeing the first bar go at 100 unless I run fast or get in a lot of stop and go at the end of my day on the slab...
