If you have experience with hobby electronics then a great deal of your battle is already won. Download manual1 and manual3 from the PICAXE.COM site and you will get a feel for how to write simple code for some simple projects. Simple projects are relatively easy to turn into other, more useful projects. The PICAXE.COM forum is a very friendly and helpful place for those times that you get stuck.

I'm not savy with electrical but I found this: Gear Indicator Pro DS for DL650 V-Strom 04-11 - Electrical - Dual-Sport/ADV Parts - SoloMotoParts.com - Motorcycle Parts, Accessories and Gear
Will probably add this to the '07 Wee I think I'm going to buy Monday

Compare prices though... I built one for about $25...my 6th gear indicator will be slightly cheaper too... Plus it's fun to make stuff yourself

I would omit the display and only have the led on it... It would be fairly simple I think... Thanks for the help!

Are you referring to item number 290766506296 on ebay?

After much googling and ebaying i found what you were talking about...it is only $30, but you also have to wire in and install sensors on your shift lever and the motor or somewhere that a magnet can pass by it to know what gear it's in...

there are even cheaper ones i found using the same magnet technology...some were only $18...they are all from china as far as i could tell...i would be suspect of the actual quality of parts you would get...

Does anyone know a way to create an "air speed" indicator by mounting an anemometer somewhere on the bike or top of the helmet, and connecting the gauge to a digital readout on the dash, perhaps by Bluetooth?

That would give a correct indication of the combination of forward movement and either headwind or tailwind, another essential piece of information.
