just want to start out by saying what a great site , this is my first v strom and the bike is perfect except after it warms up the idle will increase from 1400 to 2500 k when sitting at red light . the bike runs perfect down the road after that , i can roll the throttle back and the idle will come down but u have to apply pressure to keep it there , i also noticed if i pop the throttle the idle will go back down to 1400 then jump back up to 2500 rpm and some times the longer i sit it will go up to almost 3k ....thanks for any help

What does the throttle do when the bike is off and parked? Does it snap right back to closed, or does it feel like it hangs up? You mentioned that forcing it closed bring the RPM down. I would check out throttle cable adjustment and lubrication to start.

Thanks, the throttle snaps back no hang up, made some adjustments on the cables still no change,,,,, on way home tonight [ 15 miles]. It was a little better but still rpms went up to 2k to 2.5 rpm.

does this bike have temp sensors in the heads? I had a similar problem with a boat motor. the computer advanced the timing when the engine was cool or for so many seconds after first starting it.

problem I had was one of the two series connected sensors was bad and it always read cold. so the timing stayed advanced. this screwed up the RPMs when the engine warmed.

does the bike feel bogged when warm?

could also be something as simple as an vacuum leak affecting the fuel mix. when you pop the throttle, the injectors send more fuel into the cylinders balancing it out for a few secs. like an accelerator pump on carb bikes.

1400 is the extreme high end of the 1200-1400rpm specified idle range. Bring it down a bit. If that doesn't do it, the throttle body linkage is outside its hot idle adjustment range or the TPS needs adjustment or replacement.
