Hello all fellow Stromtroopers,
I'm new to this type of bike and looking forward to riding the crap out of it!!!
I have a whole lot of questions, but right now I just want to know if anyone knows where I can order the shop/service manual from other than from Suzuki?

2011 DL650A

The Suzuki factory manual is the only one available. Online PDFs and photocopies are out there but all are pirated versions of the factory manual. Don't even discuss pirated copies here.

You can order a service manual online from genuinesuzukimanuals.com. The website isn't real clear if it is direct from Suzuki, but they appear to be an authorized online distributor of Suzuki manuals. They print them as they receive the orders and by doing so they claim they are able to provide the most current updates. I have never used them so I can't speak to the quality of the manuals or the service, but it seems legit.

You can sometimes find used ones on eBay or in the Marketplace section of this forum.

Genuine Suzuki Manuals is a source for factory manuals. 99500-36135-03E is the part number so a search on that will find sources as well as being able to give the number to a local Suzuki dealer to make ordering easier. 2011 Suzuki DL650AL1 V-Strom ABS | RepairManual.com is where I got mine. The genuine article will be around $90 new. A used manual for 2007 or later will have what is needed for a 2011. The clutch lever switch changed in 2010 and the electrical output went from 375W to 400W in 2008 but those are minor points.

Zowie, the factory manual is a bit pricey. I did pay even more for the factory DVD for the BMW and I ain't used it once in 4 years, I take the bike in for service.
I also refuse to make copies for other fellers that have the same bike. They don't want to pay anything and feel they are entitled to a free-bee. Phooey, pay the big bucks and support the manufacture. Other wise you are just a thief!
I don't mind someone selling a used copy of the original though. As long as it was obtained from a dealer.

What's "wrong" is motorcycle manufacturers CHARGING for information about a motorcycle you already paid good money for! Information should be FREE. They should charge for a printed version, yes. But digital copies should be supplied for FREE online by the mfg. Besides other motor vehicles, name another household item you have to PAY for to get the manual.

We're talking about a service manual. What household item do you have with a service manual? It's the owner's manual that is free. It takes a lot more work and money to do a service manual that is bigger than the phone book for most towns.

Keep in mind that the factory service manual (whether in paper or software) is primarily intended for use by dealers, so it would have to be produced by the company in the natural course of things whether it's offered to the public or not. Once compiled the only additional cost is for printing and binding, which probably comes to less than $10 if produced in volume.

Nope, charging such an unconscionable price has the dual purpose of both profiteering on those who buy it and driving others to the dealership for service and repairs.

The cost is somewhat determined by a sales projection based on past history. That number is not the number of dealers.
