I noticed the bike had some oil under it today. It looks like oil is leaking out of it somewhere. Is this a common issue?

I've not heard it mentioned on here other than high mileage examples. On the other hand yours is doing it so it doesn't matter much.
I think the choices are to replace the shock or consider doing something like having it rebuilt by Racetech or similar. I believe it is supposed to be non-rebuildable so its not real simple and straightforward but they do advertise the service, believe it is 550.

The rear shock started leaking on my 08 Wee at about 9000 miles and about 1 month out of warranty, Suzuki stepped up to the plate and replaced it for free. That was 3 years ago and all is fine.

It would appear that it is a bum shock as the bike has 3k on it 1.5k by me. Unfortunately its an 07 and I am the 2nd owner so I am on my own.
Not too thrilled about the cost of replacement. You would think this were a Ducati or something. I found it for just over 1k OEM.

Coral Snake got better treatment from Suzuki than I did. My 2008 Wee developed a leaking rear shock after 3500 miles (I bought it new). Their response, "Thats normal wear". I don't think so!
I had mine rebuilt - new valving, seals, plus nitrogen recharge valve and a new spring for my weight. Combined that with Racetech front springs, Racetech Gold Valve Emulators and some fine tuning and it is a totally different bike. For the OEM price, you can get much better aftermarket shocks. Like Joe S. says check Racetech to see if they can rebuild it. |

Thanks NWtwisties. At least I am not alone
I have to weigh my options. Clearly new OEM is not the direction to go. I may try and source used since I had not planned on this expense. I may just have to put the bike away for the winter and fix it during the winter at some point. How do things improve for you with your suspension upgrades?

The leak might be the easily repaired preload adjuster. See it that is operable.
If it is the shock itself leaking, someone who has replaced their stock shock with an aftermarket one might have a decent stocker for sale.

Thank you, it does look like it is coming from the bottom of the shock unfortunately. It is a good idea about a stocker and I will inquire.

All leaks migrate to the bottom. See if you can get five lines to show up by cranking the preload up all the way. If not, the leak is in the hydraulic preload mechanism.

Thank you Greywolf. I have never tried to adjust it so I will look at the manual and verify.
