Just had my 4000 service completed and a new anakee ll rear put on due to a bolt. Anyway, now it seems like there is a lot more vibration coming up through the frame than before. I get it that it's a new tire but if I knew that it would make my hands feet and scrotum numb I think I would've chosen a different tire. For those that went from oem tires to anakees was this your experience at all or am I nuts?

A couple thousand miles ago I switched, at about 7000 miles on my '07 wee, from OEM Trailwing to Anakee II on the rear.
I made the switch myself - including balancing, using just the rear axle of the bike and the fully-inflated new Anakee II (and a couple 5-gallon pails as stands) for balancing work. A lot more balancing weight was required to achieve balance than I thought would be needed. I think I applied 11 weights of 1/4-ounce each. In the end though the tire-wheel combo was very well balanced and the bike rides great. Very, very smooth. Glassy smooth. I'm totally satisfied with the Anakee II rear and look forward (sort of - except for cost) to getting to put a new Anakee II on the front (front is currently Anakee I), though I have absolutely no complaints with the Anakee I front. Regarding balancing, I've seen people on this site ask about a balance mark on Anakee IIs (mark indicating heaviest or lightest side of tire), but I believe I've not seen an answer. I could find no balance mark, and this might explain the seemingly great amount of balance weight that I had to apply. If someone knows if these tires do or do not have a balance mark, I hope they'll comment here. In the end though, all is well. I love the way the Anakee II rear looks and performs - wet or dry. I'm hopeful it will be a high-mileage tire as well. As an aside, my gas mileage jumped about 4 mpg at the time I installed the new Anakee II rear. Maybe because of proper inflation (about 40 psi for me) - maybe because of the tire....I've averaged about 58.5 mpg (US) on six tanks of fuel since the tire change. If your rear Anakee II was as badly out of balance as mine, from the factory, and if proper balancing wasn't done, I can easily imagine that the result is a bumpy ride. |

I have worn a set out on my trip to Alaska and did not have a problem with vibration. I used Ride On to balance both front and back.

Had the mechanic at the dealer take it for a ride. I like the guy and he rides an sv. He doesn't seem to think there's anything out of the ordinary. He did say that he could feel the tire lugs at lower speeds. How does one convey that they "just know" something is not right. If this buzzing was always there I would not even be thinking about it now. I appreciate the responses but the comment "smooth as glass" just bums me out. I want my glass back. The service advisor did say to put a couple hundred miles on it and see if it either stops or I forget about it? If not they said they would work with me. Not sure what that means. Makes me want to trade it in for something else smoother. Fjr maybe. So frustrating.

Did you double check your chain alignment with a straight edge? The marks on the swingarm are notorious for being wrong.

If the vibration problem started immediately after a tire change, and if nothing else was done during the 4000-mile service that would likely contribute to such a problem, then I'd definitely take a good look at that new tire and tire-installation job. I can think of several potential problems, including:
1. Faulty new tire (not likely IMHO, especially with a Michelin tire). 2. Bead not properly seated at some point on one of the rim edges (I'm nearly certain I rode my DR350 (now sold) for a whole summer with a non-seated tire, thinking that (mostly offroad) bike probably just naturally rode rough. It wasn't until many months later, when I changed the tire again, that I realized that some effort is required to seat the bead completely. After taking more time with bead-seat of the second tire, the bike rode much smoother. Just because the tire is inflated it isn't a sure bet that the bead is completely seated, IMO.) 3. Improper (too low) tire inflation. 4. Old wheel weights left on wheel and no balance job performed. 5. Old wheel weights removed and no balance job performed. 6. Poor balance job performed. 7. Wheel damaged during tire-change operation (maybe not too likely). My wee rode extremely smoothly immediately following tire change (to Anakee II) and balance (performed entirely by me). I wouldn't count on a couple hundred miles to smooth things. Unless you absolutely trust whoever did the tire change job, I'd take a real hard look at the wheel-tire combo myself before considering trading bikes. Good luck to you. |

I think they are great, trouble free tires. Must be something else like the guys are saying.

Hi Mnstrom ,
i fitted a anakee 2 to the rear of my wee about 2 weeks ago (dealer fitted the tyre to wheel , i removed and refitted the wheel) smooth as and a lot queiter (road noise) then the OEM tyre. I'd also be checking the spacer in the rear hub , it would'nt be the first time a shop has left it out ![]() The dealer did say it took a lot to balance the tyre. (weights) Ozzy

Does anybody have a pic of that rear hub spacer in place so I could compare to mine?
