Hi all,
I'm in the market for a wee. Never owned one before. I'm seeing many for sale in the 35k mile range. When looking the bike over, what can I expect to see with issue at that mileage. Any feedback would be helpful thanks! |

I got an 04 last May with 23K miles for $3500. It has 36K on it now and runs like new.
You'd be listening for mechanical noises and chain/ sprocket wear. Check the brake pads to see if they are not too thin. Look under everything for oil/dirt deposits. The air filter is probably full of bugs though. The bike seems to like to ingest them. Mine looked pristine when I got it, a sign the previous owners were careful with it. |

At 200,000 miles, Suzuki will provide a new instrument cluster for free as the original stops one mile before that. Guess how we know this. The most important thing to me is a maintenance history. That mileage is nothing on a properly maintained Wee.

The new one starts at 0 and comes with a sticker stating the previous mileage.

So I guess the answer to your question is, look out for a sticker on the odometer indicating 200,000+
But perhaps a more useful response could be to look for bent or grazed bar-end weights indicating a drop. Mine were bent and lead to me discovering my handlebars were slightly bent and needed to be replaced. Last edited by Strange Dog; 06-03-2012 at 11:50 PM. |

I agree with the bar end weights, they scratch easily and are a tell tale sign a bike has been down. Another indication would be new/aftermarket turn signals, if a bike like the V-strom falls over, they are the first things to pop off due to their location. I know from experience. Maybe pull the footpegs up and see if they're scratched on the underneath or by the hinge.
I wouldn't be all too concerned with nicks and scratches if the price reflects such, there really aren't a lot of lemons out there in the DL650 gene pool, just make sure you understand the market value of what you're looking for. |

Could you clear this up for me, my question is was this on a V-Strom or another Suzuki motorcycle ? And did you personally own/ride this machine to over 200K

Not my machine. Mine only had 77,000 miles on it when I sold it. I've read about two DL1000s and one DL650 that turned it over.
