What grade gas do most run in your v-strom? Does reg. seem to cause problems or lower gas milage?

Thanks for info JR. Sorry FZ6 I did not know every time you had a question someone was going to jump on you. I will go back to the harley forum beings I have a HD also. You do not seem to get this kind of treatment there. Thanks James in Arkansas

Hammer - You can use the search function for many questions here, it works pretty good as far as I can tell. As for me I've only used 87/89 (89 only because it's cheaper, sort of speak, in Iowa) octane and haven't noticed a difference in either one. Constant mid 50's mpg, sometimes I get 57 mpg.
I think FZ6 was only warning you in case others wanted to "jump" on your post. Either way, even if you don't post much here (I don't) there is a ton of info concerning Stroms...

Regular gas is what the motor is designed for, if you're in the middle of South America, super may be hard to get, plus these engines are "detuned" from the SV versions for that reason. I don't use any gas with ethanol in it, that will ruin your milage and you loose some power with it , IMO. Cheers--BB

hammerman47:
I don't think you should take it hard or personally. When people join an internet forum they read the forum's rules. Just like when somebody joins a social club, he needs to understand how to to behave in that club. You obviously didn't do that. That particular question is asked again and again by many new joiners. You should have simply used the 'Google Custom Search' box on top first, then if you can't find the topic, ask the forum members. (BTW: Nothing against HD riders, just that it seems V-Strom riders are a little more intelligent, on average... look up ATGATT in the search box I mentioned)

Use regular 87 octane. I just got back from the Ozarks, and got over 63 mpg on two separate tanks, 59 mpg on another using 100% gas, and I wasn't riding for mileage. Unfortunately there is none here where I live near DFW, TX. (Not Allowed) It is very hard to find in TX period, you can find it almost anywhere in OK, and I found it in AR too, just had to look a little harder. I get 54MPG-57MPG on E-10

BigB I am 65yrs young and started riding when I was 19. Have had over 50 MC, and probably ride more miles than most on this forum. I just ask a simple question and wanted a simple answer. BM73 I have noticed super smart people sometimes have a problem with simple things. James in Arkansas a RAZORBACK
