Default my two cents

Just picked up my new 06 DL650 on Friday. I rode it home 250 miles from the dealership, changed the oil, and took it on a 700 mile weekend trip. Here are a few of my observations.

Engine braking is superb, reminds me of a class 8 diesel engine Jake Brake.

ergonomics are great although anything over my 6' might start to get cramped

Mileage was a steady 43 running at 80-85 on interstates which is a BIG improvement over my Valkyrie.

The best stock seat I've seen yet, but as usual could be better.

Windshield at highest position works fine for me with my Shoei RF1000 (am I the only one who doesn't think the buffeting is a problem?).

Even if buffeting isn't a problem for me I'd like a little more rain protection.

It's an extremely smooth bike with no buzzing at any speed.

Power to spare even while cruising at 85 mph with a full complement of camping gear strapped on.

I like the quiet exhaust even if the muffler/heat shield is ugly.

It did stall briefly twice during the first 200 miles but after a search of the archives I'm not worried about it.

The long seat easily accomodates my set of Chase Harper saddlebags.

The best bike I've bought and ridden to date!

Oh yeah, I got it stuck in axle deep mud already. Actually only the front axle, the bike only made it so far. I wasn't actually trying to test it's mud ability the campground was just a big mess after the frog strangler we had to ride 200 miles through.

Must be they put a better seat on your 06 than mine. I think it is the worst stock seat I have had in the last 15 years or so. Funny thing is in the 70s the stock seats were not that bad. You don't think it is because the manufacturers have started selling optional seats do you?

Nope you are not the only one. I have had mine set to the lowest position and had no problems. It is going to be getting cooler here in Michigan so I am going to raise mine to the highest position for more protection. Lets see if I feel the same way after that.

Like I said in another thread, windshield in highest position, perfect. Stock seat, I have had no complaints from my ass yet.

Windshiled mid position and stock seat has been great for 25,000+ miles . In that total were many 400+ mile days and one of over 700
