Blair, thanks for joining in; had you had a lot of customers with abs models do this mod? Is the previously mentioned thread the only one where someone had issues?

So, I've been digging in this forum and the VSRI forum for a couple days. So far I have found only 1 account of someone having issues with this mod, and at least 3 people who have done it and found it worthwhile. does anyone else have input?

I am the black sheep... As I am the only one who does not like how the abs changed after the mod... Abs still works but it takes a fraction longer to unlock the wheel.... Not much of an issue in dry, I suppose...
I am very much a detail orientated person- I don't expect most will know the difference Regardless, I recommend changing to larger bore mc of the pre k7 wee and all years vee set up- a bit more hand effort but much less brake lever travel... I find ther larger bore mc and ebc Hh pads provide sufficient increase in brake feel for me... 4 pots is not going to stop u quicker. Traction and how quickly u can get to max braking determines that..

So multiple accounts of "increasing stopping power" and ace saying that 4 pots won't stop you faster. What's accurate?

What I can tell you is that over 1000 sets of the brake caliper adapter brackets have been shipped to Stromtroopers worldwide and continue go out every week, Almost every modern sport bike uses 4 piston calipers of one sort or another, twice the pistons as on a Vstrom model, Enjoy the ride, and best regards, Blair |

Both. Less lever pressure is required but distance is determined by traction as long as the brakes can lock a wheel, which the stock brakes can. Four piston brakes can turn four fingered brakers into two fingered brakers and arguably improve lever feel, but they won't shorten braking distance if both bikes are stopped with the same level of skill.

So: with the correct sized m/c and 4 pistons calipers, you can have "more power" and 3 out of 4 people say no ABS issues?
My nissin set came with the M/C. Interestingly the Vstrom uses tokiko calipers with a nissin mc. Compairing the general dimensions, I believe that the new MC will work with the Vstrom hand guards if I move the lever pivot bolt over. My only concern is the ABS system... Most skilled riders look for the best brakes they can get, Lower level riders will improve braking and stopping distances with the improved parts. Enjoy the ride, and best regards, Blair |

I guess what I'm looking for is someone to tell me that if I do this my ABS will still work correctly...

Quote:
What you do get is the impression of increased stopping power because the 4-pots take so much less effort at the brake lever to deliver the same amount of bite at the rotor. With 4-pots you seldom need more than 2 fingers to scrub off speed really quickly. For me that translates into increased braking confidence because I don't need a whole handful of lever in panic braking situations. Think of the 4-pot upgrade as power brakes for your bike. ![]() (BTW I did mine this past spring and I love the result - on a K9 ABS Wee. |
