My question is, How does one learn all of these little pitfalls BEFORE one of their windshield bracket bolts falls into this area and they spend hours researching how to remove the front fairing unsuccessfully until they throw their hands up and say "Damnit, I'll just search for 'dropped bolt headlight' and see what comes up."
![]() I'll try the telescopic magnet.

Very glad it worked for you!
Sadly I tend to use stainless screws which of course aren't attracted to magnets....

I have dropped all kinds of crap down there. Usually the telescoping magnet thing did the trick - but not always - it doesn't go around corners well, and you have to use the braille system to go about it - it's dark down there.
I'm not above just giving up. Allen wrenches have been known to mysteriously show up on the driveway after washing my Wee. If you are really hard-core, you could use the missing washer as motivation to finally check your valve clearances. You can give the plastic a good cavity-search as you tediously take it all off.

How about a report on the most expensive item found in there? Mine was a $9 security screwdriver for a Garmin Zumo GPS locking screw.

I just lost today a MadStad rubber bumper there (worth 1c?) - no magnet can rescue it.
That dark cave is creepy.. ![]() I think, in retrospective, that the best solution to first seal it with something before starting to work there.

The shape of the lower fairing causes it to open a portal to an alternate dimension
Nothing is comming back |

Get a felt pad like the one you stick to the chair legs. I have a set at home and a 3x4 inch pad that I cut to whatever I need. Also great to help stop rattles.
