I have noticed a few times that on my 2014 V2 with 2100 miles now that when the bike is cold I occasionally get a low rpm cough or stumble in the fueling right off idle. Anyone else have this issue? Anything that can be done about it. And no I will not install a Power Commander. I guess just let it warm up a bit, and be aware of it. Actually one time it happened just as I was leaving my driveway and turning left from a stop. I almost dropped it. Not fun !:furious:
I have noticed that my bike doesn't "spring" to life when started. It's more or less wakes up from a cold start a little sleepy. Always starts on the first try, just takes a few seconds to smooth out.
I tend to start the bike, check tire pressures, put on my gear, and then roll it out of the garage before I take off. It's typically sufficiently warmed up by then so I have never noticed any stumble. I know with modern bikes some folks say there is no need to warm them up, but old habits die hard. I have always allowed my bikes to warm up a bit before riding them. Nothing crazy, maybe a minute or two.
The engine will warm up faster if you ride it right away. Idling wastes fuel, adds to pollution, and makes the engine run longer cold, which is not good for it.
I know nothing about the 2014 and newer DL 1000 fueling. I would check the bike for a loose vacuum line, throttle body boot. If it coughed hard enough to effect your riding, it needs fixed! I would talk with a dealer if nothing is found.
I noticed the same thing on mine. Once I stalled the engine. However on mine it does happen when warm. Only of idle and only when the throttle movement is quick. I got used to it. In the 4k+ km I have on it it happened to me 3 times.
I have to say, coming off my 08 Wee, the 1kV2 is an amazing upgrade.
I just know the stumble is very slight, and has only done it a couple 3 times. My 2012 650, you could almost put it in gear and let the clutch out the second the bike started with never an issue.
Otherwise my bikes fueling seems spot on. I love this new one...... And the last new one, and the one before that......
This has been my exact experience as well. The occasional sputter. I am not too concerned with it. If I let the bike run (while sitting on its centerstand) for 20 - 30 seconds while I put on my helmet and gloves this completely eliminates the problem.
I do notice that I have to press the start button a tad bit longer than the Wee and then it idles a little rough when cold. Doesn't give me any problems though. I'm in the fire it up and let oil pressure build and drive away gently camp.
I have always let my stroms warm up to at least one if ot two bars beforei ride it, if you take off right away your oil is thick and you can create too much pressure and create a leak down by the shift shaft.
No, that can't happen. You're laboring under a delusion. The pressure difference between hot and cold oil is not great. Besides, the shifter shaft is not pressure lubricated. I had 77,000 miles on a Wee I never spent more than a few seconds running before riding and it never had an oil seal leak.
The lawyer driven manual recommendations say 30 seconds so the worry warts can start the engine then put helmet and gloves on. It actually takes much less time for oil pressure to reach all the pressure fed areas.
