I got a brand new '14 DL 1000 in April. It has just under 2000 miles on it.
Today, I was putting on my Givi crash bars (which is more difficult than Rich's video would have you believe) and thus got up close an personal with my motor. And lo and behold . . . an oil leak on the right hand side.
The only people conceivably in there was the dealer at the 600 mile service when they did the break in service. Is this normal? It isn't a Harley and it isn't a Porsche so I am not really expecting an oil leak this early on.
Those pictures are of two different places. The first is the water pump weep hose and I'm not seeing anything wrong there except the overflow hoses from other places should be there too.
Where is the other hose on the bike? It looks more like a coolant hose or maybe a breather hose.
That upper circle is a water pump coolant hose. The lower oval is the water pump weep hose. Wash them off and see if the seepage comes back. Yes, neither should be showing any moisture but it may be from an initial service that wasn't properly cleaned. Maybe the water pump got scratched in transit and had to be replaced. Anyhow, they are not oil leaks but coolant.
When the dealer replaced my stator, they jizzed oil on the engine, said it was residual and not to worry. I got home, cleaned it out and, yes it was residual from when they did the work.
Yes I would make sure there is for sure a leak before taking it in. Just went through an oil leak ordeal myself and finally got it figured out.
