I have orderd a set of the DL650 Hong kong footpegs that everyone talks about, but! now I have read the the position of these pegs is closer & higher to the gear shifter than the original pegs.
I ride with size 7,5 US size Alpinestars Tech 3 cross boots, would it be a problem ? should I maybe invest in a new folding shifter direct on the spindle? Yes I can wait and see what the differance is! but if I need to order a new shifter because it make changing gear difficult then I will have to wait a week or more with the post as I live in the middle of knowhere! A new shifter does not cost too much, so I would order one now if it would be good idea? Touratech? Moose racing? IMS DR650 Type???

The stock shifter on your DL1000 has both a coarse adjustment by the splines on the shaft and a fine adjustment #27. You shouldn't have a problem with your small feet getting closer. The 650 and 1000 use different footpegs though so I don't know if you are okay there.

I wear a size 13 boot so the stock linkage type shifter was a no go. I went with an OEM DR650 but it ended up being fairly long. I cut an inch out of it and it is sooo much better than the stocker. Added bonus is the folding tip and steel construction which lets you bend it back into shape if it should ever get bent.

I'm thinking of ordering a dr650 shift lever, I wear size11 boots, and find the stock shifter is much too close for me , with a size 9 foot and a slim boot it may be better, plus I have never liked linkage type shifters because of the slop they develope, and then there is the cast aluminum thing???? just who thought that up, a parking lot tip over could possibly snap it right off.

Just found a thread with a photo and it appears to relocate the tip of the shifter 3.25 inches further out! That seems like an awful lot. Going to have to ponder that.

I installed this shift lever from Touratech. No linkage, no slop, folding tip, and it puts the shift lever in the stock position.
It's Touratech, so it was bloody expensive, of course. Works great, though.Folding Shift Lever, Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 - Touratech-USA

I too have the Touratech shift lever. No linkage, much more direct feel that is also slightly stiffer. The adjustment is a bit coarse so it doesn't line up at the exact stock position, but I like it a little higher anyway. I'd recommend it.
