Just passed the 8k mark on my '12 Vee. The tires still look great. There are slight flat spots because of my commute. I tried a gentle swerve back and forth when traffic was light, but our highway patrol was not happy about it. It was lucky that the officer that pulled me over rides too. He knew why I was doing it but told me not to do it anymore.

What reason and/or instructions did he give for you to cease? Motorbikes are allowed to use any/all parts of their lane (here in Australia, at least) so I'm interested in hearing what kind of traffic violation he thought you were committing.

Yeah, what was the problem? I do this all the time to check and improve my control.

I sometimes rapidly twitch the steering left and right to see if anything feels wrong with the bike. I once saw a rider on a CBR900 doing the motogp "Warming my tyres" swerving and he very nearly high-sided it. If you are weaving left and right to wear your tyres evenly, wouldn't you have to be doing it for something like two thirds of your commute in order to wear the edges of the tyre ? |

I do it occasionally if I'm bored, and also to make tailgaters give me more distance (it works, so does standing up).

Back to the original question the original factory tires on my '11 lasted just about 15000 miles. I replaced the back first as they were squared off and down to the wear bars. About two weeks later, and glowing from my successful manual tire change, I replaced the front with a Anakee 2.

Moving around in your lane does remind some of the tailgaters to drop back, and you'll meet the nicest LEOs that way. When the next one stops you, ask him for a beer.
Trying to even out the wear on your tires by moving in the lane doesn't work. Here is the good reason for moving around in your lane:

I've seen that video, and do it. It makes the cagers take notice. Yes it's 8,000 miles on factory Bridgestone Trailwings.
LEO told me that swerving was a vehicle colds violation. Haven't found the code yet. Sent from my iPhone using Motorcycle.com Free App |

I got 16000km out of my trail wings. They had a little left on the front only.
