I like seeing all of the pictures of the internals, keep them coming please.

I'm sure you will but, I would deburr the edges around that damage. Get them little pieces of shavings out of there.

Did you find all of the pieces of the chain that broke?

Well, after being working on the Vee for a good few hours today, this is where it all stands:

I ended up taking from the donor engine:
- The front cam chain.
- The front cam chain guide and tensioner
- The two front intake valves.

Everything else will be the original engine.

So now that I have all the needed parts out, I just need to start putting everything together.

Chain guides are ready





Pistons are clean




Cylinders are clean





Heads are clean





Valves are mostly clean





Now I just need to lap them in place to re-seat them and make sure they seal properly.

Hey Off -- I just stumbled on to this thread. I had no idea when we rode last week that you were this far into the project! I really admire you for taking on this challenge. You have much more patience and tenacity than I have! I'd be happy to come over and help if needed. I can't provide much technical knowledge, but if you need an extra pair of hands let me know.

Well, I'm planning on putting the engine back together tomorrow and then maybe mount it in the evening. I know you'll be riding tomorrow morning, but if you feel like dropping by after that, I could use another pair of hands. You got my number, text me and I'll give you my address.

Next time I'll put some effort into my username. This one sounds like a toilet Bowl cleaner or Treadmill, or..

Valves adjusted and under spec. Only one needed a new shim which, fortunately, I had.

Don't worry--I have a 2006 with 60,000 miles. It has been ridden hard (redlined regularly) and long (two trips to Inuvik, NWT). The engine runs better than new. I put 12,000 miles on it this year. They're fantastic motors!!

Camshafts in place.
