Default Whine sound. I think its fuel pump

After a 2.5 week trip in the US on my 04 Vee, i noticed a whine sound when the bike starts and can hear it when riding as well. The noise fades a bit sometimes, but then comes back. I suspect it's the fuel pump plugged up from bad gas. There were some questionable gas station stops on our trip.

I was looking at this one on ebay. Has anyone tried one of these? Says it has lifetime warranty and only $70 with shipping.

I assume this high pressure filter that gets plugged is inside this motor right?

I don't mind spending $70 if it fixes the issue without drilling, external filters hoses and all that other stuff.

Default Normal

That whining noise is the fuel pump and it's normal. Unless you are having some other issue stop worrying about it.

It just started after returning from vacation. There was no noise before.

I am not noticing any performance issues. The bike runs normally. Just makes this annoying sound now. Is it going to get worse and eventually cause a failure?

Yea, I vote for fix when broke.....not before. I'm sure you know your bike....but "whining" sound? Could be other things....or nothing.

That whirring noise is not normal. Once idling the fuel pump should be silent. My Vee has done it. Mine started making noise and for about 5,000 miles it slowly got louder. With the turn signal flashing, the whir would change pitch with the voltage drop.

To diagnose, do a fuel flow test. The bike should not just quit...mine didn't anyway. With time it started starving for fuel at high RPM...say above 7000.

To fix you can either do the filter bypass or replace the OEM filter. I did the OEM route. It requires removal of the tank. The fuel pump and filter are connected together and are located in the cylindrical sump with the round plate holding it on near the rear underside of the tank.

The OEM filter is around $230...yes expensive. I found no alternatives for the OEM filter...if you do let us know.
