Default Chain Adjustment

The manuel says the chain should have 1 3/8-1 1/2 inch slack.. My question is ; is the measurement taken with someone on the bike, on the centerstand, on the side stand?? And how much pressure do you apply to the hcain. Obviously tyhe more pressure the greater the give.

Thanks in advance.

Bike leaning on the factory sidestand. Stcker on my bike says 0.8 to 1.2 inches. I use about 1.25 to 1.5 inches.

Measure on lower run of chain at mid point. I put a fair amount of pressure on it with my fingers. Check in several spots and adjust for the tightest spot.

Like the man said 0.8 to 1.2 on the side stand. the 1.25-1.5 is easier to check at multiple places when on the center stand.
If you rotate the rear wheel and the chain moves up and down a lot, you probably have a stretch problem.

Just as a reminder:

Chain too tight -- It will "bind" when the rear-sprocket reaches maximum length from the front sprocket as the swingarm moves. This WILL destroy bearings in the rear-wheel and at front-sprocket

Chain too lose -- The tips of the teeth on the front sprocket will wear prematurely due to the chain 'running up' to the tips of the teeth as it changes direction round the small diameter at highway speeds.

Check on centerstand if equipped.
