...is apparently overdue.
Never been inside a set of forks before. Doesn't look too complicated. It seems that I need oil, a set of dust seals, a set of oil seals, some aftermarket springs and an evening of 'spare time'. I've looked around and don't find a 'how-to' for the Vee. Is it so similar to the Wee that I can use that as a GO BY? With the differences in the suspension, I won't need emulators, etc. as the upgrades on the Wee, but... Anyone got advice, look-out-fors, etc.? Whose springs should I buy? H .

I would do 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12 and put in Sonic Springs.

Look at Black Lab's 650 Fork Rebuild, pretty much the same for the DL1000, save for the parts.
Make sure you have ALL the correct parts before you start. Double check the actual parts once you receive them. If you replace the springs, a lot of us have gone with the Sonics. It is very straight-forward, pay close attention to the tool you will need to seat the seals. I used a 3" section of a ripped 2 x 4. I used a 3" drum sander on my drill press to round out the inside and form a very thin arc. This worked like a charm for seating the seals. I liked it so much, I kept it, if I get a chance, I will post a photo of it.

I thought the fork innards were different between the 650 and the 1000?

The damping mechanism is entirely different. The parts that are subject to wear like the bushings and seals are very similar though. The 1000's exploded view is already up. Here is the 650's.

There's a procedure for bleeding the air out of the cartridges prior to final assembly, if memory serves. Useful in getting the proper oil level, as well as consistent damping.

Thanks for the clarification, GWolf.

Not to hijack the thread. But I was about to post and saw this related post.
I have a VEE and Sonic springs are coming in the mail. There are a lot of instructions on the forum on how to install Sonic Springs in the wee, but not the Vee. I've read all the Wee instructions... for the Vee what do I need to know? What different? Is it pretty much the same (minus the spacer lengths and oil weights)? All help and advice is greatly appreciated.

On the way:
Sonic springs 1.1 6,7,8,11 & 12 as Greywolf recommended. Sonic says that they've sent instructions with the springs and say they'll provide technical advice if needed... ...we'll see... .

They are, but the OP wanted to know if they are similar for a "GO BY". I used Barry's when I did mine a few months back and it worked like a charm. I also have the service manual.
