The std head bearings are budget and worth replacing with tapered. Worked for me!

FYI
I had good success buffing with cloth wheel and compound in the direction of travel Greatly reduced seal stiction and believed it eliminated any weeping

If the forks are due for a rebuild, then maybe the steering bearings are also. The infamous clunk is probably something else...maybe the tank moving forward, or...? Some Stroms have it at low mileage and some never get it.
