Default Fuel Injection Error

Just to be sure if this is a problem.
Sometimes when I want to start my bike the FI light comes on and the fuel pump shuts off.
Just a simple on and off with the kill switch cures the problem and the bike is starting fine.

I this something to worry about or normal behavior ?

There are no error codes displayed.

Thanks

That is not normal if the kill switch is in the run position to begin with. The switch contacts may be dirty. The FI stands for fault indication, not fuel injection.

You might also check the kickstand switch for filth leading to intermittent tendencies.

Cycling the kill switch would have no effect on the side stand switch though.

Thanks, Do you think that it could be the kill switch? What's the easiest way to clean it.
Do you have to open in order to be cleaned or can I simply spray some contact cleaner in the switch?

It could be the kill switch. I would want to look at the contacts to see if they look dirty but spraying contact cleaner inside the housing could do the trick.

I'm having the same problem on my 2002. Sometimes it starts up with no problems, other times it takes many flips of the kill-switch or twists of the ignition key. Started as an occasional occurrence a couple months ago and is now daily.

"FI" means "fault indicated"...meaning a generic electrical fault, or what? Where is that pointing to?

See http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7061.0.html for dealer mode and error codes on FI problems.

My preferred method is to always disassemble and clean/fix. There's a chance spraying cleaner inside the housing will not even reach the required area. If you decide to do it this way though, make sure to use a contact cleaner that's safe for plastic like LPS, or it'll do more bad than good.

Next time it happens, leave the ignition on, get your spare key to lift the seat and put it in dealer mode. You'll probably find the fault code then.
