Default My chain jumped on my Vee

With only one inch play midway on my chain, I managed to drop my chain from my own stupidity when my plastic cleaning brush got snagged between it and the rear sprocket whilst I had it running in 1st gear on the center stand. Hope Mortaine is not reading this! Just wondering if I should change my chain and sprockets now as something must have flexed for the chain to drop? Maybe the rear hub cushion gave enough for the chain to come off, but it's an uneasy feeling now. Any thoughts?
Sprocket and chain look fine, but no way to get it on unless I pull the axle.

I thinking I better get a new set and remember to look when I am cleaning my chain from now on instead of doing it nearly dark outside and half asleep.

At least it wasn't your fingers that got caught in there.

I know! Nearly got killed by a jack today helping a friend bank his lake dock and almost lost my fingers yesterday. Tomorrow I'm staying indoors. My wife can't hurt me, at least I don't think so

If it were me, I'd put it back on and try it. If it doesn't make any unusual noises I wouldn't worry bout it.

Strange you can't loosen the axle, adjust it forward, and 'walk' the chain back on.

Careful there... She might read this and take it as a challenge!

Might try that and see how it goes. Got to pull the axle as I have the stock chain and just put on the 43 tooth rear. Playing with 42 and 43 teeth again and the chain won't come on unless I drop the wheel down and move it forward first.

Thumbs up

Somehow I think you pretty much know what Mort would have to say,

Be careful ,

Enjoy the ride, and best regards,
Blair

Yep, I know what Mort would say! Any thoughts on the chain jumping with less than an inch free play? I can't see any damage anywhere, but its not an mx bike with inches of free play, so I get the feeling I should be changing the chain and sprockets.

Defnitely check if you need wheel axle spacers to align the rear sprocket with the front. There's no reason the chain should jump with less than an inch of slack, unless the in-line sprocket alignment is way, way out.

If it is, then the sprockets are likely worn on the edge(s) and the chain will jump. From the back, look for points instead of square teeth.

Replace sprockets, chain, and get spacers as needed. No more problems!

And Blair at SVRacing can help you in all aspects.
