Default Grinding/buzzing noise when I push the starter!! Wont Start!

Greetings,
I go to start my bike that has just under 500 miles on it this morning, and all I got was a loud buzzing noise when I press the starter!
It has started flawlessly to this point.
What could be wrong??????????????

Typical culprits are a weak battery or loose/dirty connection at a large cable connecting the battery, starter relay, starter or ground.

I'm thinking it is probably just in between teeth on the starter or something. When I get home I'm gonna put it in first and try to rotate the motor just a tad. It should start then, I HOPE!!!!

That isn't it. If the battery is low, jumping it from a car battery will work. Otherwise, check those connections. It's the starter relay that buzzes if it doesn't get enough power to throw.

Really?
New bike and battery and it's low already??
I rode 150 miles Saturday. I will check the connections too.

You are correct Grey, dead battery.
Yesterday I left the parking light on. It must have been on for 7 hours.
The battery is toast! I will recharge it today!!

I've done that before, as have others. Don't feel too bad, it's easy to go that extra click.

You can charge the battery back up, but despite what others may say, you've weakened the battery some. Being deeply cycled is not good for these batteries.

I'm sure I have hurt the battery a touch.
It should be fine though. It just might not last as long as it would have. I wish there was a way to disable the parking light!!

S'okay, you've got your first lesson out of the way: always turn the key back one click to the right when you think it's off. I go deliberately all the way to "park" and then back one click, so there's never any doubt.

Your next lesson, probably scheduled the next time you absolutely have to be somewhere on time, will be on the location and purpose of the clutch interlock switch ...

Default End of story!!!!

Alright, here is the epilogue:
I charged the battery on the 2A setting for 9 1/2 hours last night. I just tucked it back into the bike, and she fired right up.
Thank you GreyWolf. You, of course, were right.
From now on, when I park my bike, I am going to turn the key all the way to the left, and then go back to the right a click to make sure the light is not on.
