I have read so much on the web in the last few days I have a constant headache. This is my plan.
I now ride a 2005 Yamaha FJR1300 farkled + bags and top case.I plan on selling her but before I do I have some questions. I am thinking of buying used maybe 2005-08. Are there any improvements between these years? I would like to get one farkled out with at least an improved over stock seat a pair of side hard bags big enough to house helmets and improved windshield system. Can anyone add what else is most important? This is my first post. I am hoping to drive me and my wife around on this.I guess I trying to slow down from my last 2 bikes I had,2005 hayabusa and now the FJR1300.I tend to go tooooo fast on these machines. I was wondering is there anyone close to my area? Tewksbury/Lowell Ma? |

What a coincidence, I kind of want a FJR.
I don't believe there are any significant improvements in the years you've specified. Maybe some very minor changes. It's been pretty much the same bike since 2004.

There's a dealer in Lowell who keeps posting on Craigslist about an '06 Vee with 8K on the odometer. He wants $4795.
Here's his ad. Also, a used car lot down the street from me in NH has an black '05 for $5K. I drive by the lot all the time but haven't stopped in. His ad is here. |

Mid '05 is when they started w/ the newer ECM that took care (mostly) of the low RPM problems.
Given a choice of otherwise equal bikes, take the '06 or newer bike. That said, I don't think it is that big a deal, so take the better bike.

I've met 8-10 DL650 owners in the area, and 2 DL1000 owners. The good news is that the used prices are low and they tend to sit on the market, around here, at least.

buy a 650 so you dont have to post multiple threads on how your bike runs like crap below 3000 rpm

I've been riding my 06 Vee for about 3 years now and it has been running fine. I would suggest before spending a lot of money on farkles take the bike out for good shakedown ride to see how it feels to help determine what you want to change/add.
With the Vee you can still find yourself hitting the high speeds rather easily. Bubba
